Elevated New Year’s Eve Fashion

We have made it to the end of yet another year, and not just any year, the end of 2021. If your 2021 was anything like mine, then we both agree the end of this year deserves a celebration. We legit made it through. From surviving Covid 19 and its variants to the riot of January 6th to the Gorilla Glue Ponytail to the crate challenge to Prince Harry leaving the Royal Family to KimYe drama and everything else in-between, 2022 we are welcoming you with open arms because it can only be up from here.

The celebration is not just about what your plans are for NYE. Friends, the celebration begins with what you decide to put on. For those who are staying in and having a chill night at home, ditch the sweats and t-shirt. Bring some life to your loungewear. You can be stylish and comfortable.

For those that are going out, show all the way out, ok!! Most people associate NYE fashion with cocktail attire or festive cocktail dress. On a basic level, the seasonal glamour of NYE for the ladies includes sequins, faux fur, velvet, black, red, gold and silver.  For the guys, it tends to be a bit more formal and structured: white shirt and tuxedo/suit. These looks are of course classics and staples in fashion. But let’s elevate and give our NYE looks some range.

Color: Do not be afraid to go outside the box and bring some color out. From jewel tones and neons to color-blocking. A little black dress will forever be fashionable. But cus, because’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to tone down the color.

Sequins: In my opinion sequins are always in order and are appropriate for every occasion. Whether a full sequins dress or just a skirt, give the people something to talk about.

Drama: Building on giving people something to talk about, don’t be afraid to give some drama. A full skirt, exaggerated sleeves, an oversized bow; whatever drama means to you do it. And make no apologies. YOLO right?!?

Vintage: Yes you read that correctly, vintage. I have some friends that thrift and they have changed my whole outlook on vintage. The great thing about vintage is it really can bring out your creativity and you definitely won’t have to worry about anyone showing up to the party with the same outfit. While you are with the family on Christmas head over to grandma’s or auntie’s closest or head over to your local thrift store. You will be amazed at the fashion finds you will stumble on. This is not just your grandmother’s silk top or sweater set anymore, this is high fashion.

Prints: Do not be afraid of prints. Plaid is for more than matching Christmas pajamas and family Christmas photos. Brocade is always a killer fabric.

Guys, I did not forget about you all. I know we all love a good black turtle neck and Chelsea boot combination; paired with a blazer a good shoe and a gold chain is a look that will work for any social setting. Color is not just for the ladies. Go for a vibrant red, green or blue. Also, nudes are always chic. Finally, don’t be afraid of prints.

No matter what you decide to wear, the best accessory for any look is confidence. Put on your clothes, throw on a smile and own the room. I have included some visual inspiration for all of the elements I have listed above. I have also included their Instagram handles for further fashion inspiration.
