Empowerment is at the heart of Jessica B.’s mission. As a devoted mother of four children on the autism spectrum, she has turned her personal experiences into a force for change, ensuring that autism families—especially those in Philadelphia’s urban communities—have the support, resources, and guidance they need. Through her company, 4BrightStars LLC, Jessica provides advocacy, IEP support, and school transition guidance, helping parents confidently navigate the education system.

In addition to her advocacy work, Jessica is an author whose upcoming children’s book, Ariahtistic Adventures, encourages young readers to embrace their uniqueness and celebrate what makes them special. Her work is a testament to resilience, passion, and the power of community. In this exclusive interview, Jessica shares her journey, the impact of her advocacy, and how she balances her many roles while staying committed to serving others.

Fancy: As a mother of four children on the autism spectrum, what inspired you to create 4BrightStars LLC, and what impact have you seen in Philadelphia’s urban communities?

Jessica: Raising four children on different levels of the autism spectrum opened my eyes to the challenges families like mine face daily—navigating school systems, finding resources, and simply being heard. I founded 4BrightStars LLC to be a voice for these families, providing advocacy, resources, and support. In Philadelphia’s urban communities, there’s often a lack of awareness and accessibility to essential services. I’ve seen the impact of my work firsthand—helping parents prepare for IEP meetings, guiding families to the right support systems, and, most importantly, empowering parents to advocate confidently for their children.

Fancy: Your upcoming children’s book, Ariahtistic Adventures, celebrates the beauty of being different. What message do you hope young readers take away from this story?

Jessica: I want children to know that it’s okay to be different. Ariahtistic Adventures is all about celebrating uniqueness and embracing what makes each of us special. The story is written from a fun, childlike perspective so that young readers can see themselves in the characters and understand that their differences are not limitations but strengths. Whether children are neurodivergent, have a unique way of thinking, or simply feel different from their peers, this book reassures them that they are valued, accepted, and amazing just as they are. I hope that all children—no matter their background or abilities—feel included and empowered to embrace their individuality.

Fancy: Navigating the education system can be challenging for autistic families. What are some of the biggest barriers you see, and how does your advocacy work help bridge the gap?

Jessica: One of the biggest barriers is the lack of knowledge—many parents don’t fully understand their rights under special education laws. Another challenge is access to quality support services, especially in urban areas where resources are often stretched thin. Schools can also resist individualized accommodations, making it difficult for children to receive the support they need. Through 4BrightStars, I bridge this gap by educating parents, helping them prepare for IEP meetings, and offering guidance on securing services for their children. My goal is to ensure that no family feels lost or alone in the process.

Fancy: February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate Black excellence and resilience. How do you see your work contributing to the ongoing legacy of Black advocates and changemakers?

Jessica: As a Black mother, entrepreneur, and advocate, I stand on the shoulders of those who have fought for equality, education, and opportunity. My work continues that legacy by breaking down barriers for Black and brown children with autism. Historically, our community has faced disparities in healthcare, education, and access to services. By advocating for these families and ensuring they receive the resources they deserve, I am working to create lasting change. Representation matters, and I want all children—regardless of race, background, or abilities—to know they have a voice, matter, and have a bright future ahead.

Fancy: In addition to advocacy and writing, you have a background in phlebotomy and other talents.

Jessica: Yes, I’ve worked as a phlebotomist and financial consultant, and while they are entirely different fields, both have taught me patience, precision, and the importance of human connection. Outside my career, I’m a poet, entrepreneur, and speaker. I wear many hats, but at the core of everything I do is a passion for helping others—whether it’s through advocacy, storytelling, or providing hands-on care in the medical field.

Fancy: How do you balance your many roles while staying committed to your mission of serving the community?

Jessica: Balance isn’t always easy, but I stay grounded by remembering my “why.” My children and the families I serve keep me motivated. I prioritize my time by setting clear goals, staying organized, and leaning on my support system. I also practice self-care and remind myself that it’s okay to rest. Serving the community is a lifelong mission, and I’ve learned that to be effective, I need to take care of myself as well.

Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Jessica B. unique?

Jessica: My swagher is my authenticity, resilience, and passion for change. I walk in my purpose daily, whether through advocacy, writing, or empowering others. I am unique because I am unapologetically myself—someone who turns challenges into opportunities and always lifts others as I rise. My journey has shaped me, and I embrace every part of it.

Fancy: Where can our readers connect with you?

Jessica: Readers can connect with me on Instagram at @4.BrightStars, where I share resources, advocacy tips, and updates on my children’s book. My website is currently in the works, and once it is launched, it will be a hub for families seeking support, guidance, and inspiration. Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
