Entrepreneurship- The Labor of Love

Happy Labor Day! While I don’t really celebrate any holiday, I do celebrate the days I can work freely without feeling like I’m pressed for time.

When you look at the history of Labor Day and how it is supposed to celebrate the rights that the Labor Movement secured for us, and then observe modern times, in many ways, it’s almost like we’re reverting back to where the movement started. Americans are working longer hours, and now due to the pandemic, many Americans are out of work and having to accept pay cuts and other less than ideal work conditions, such as trying to decide between sending our kids back to school or homeschooling or virtual-schooling them and choosing to work remotely, if that is an option.

I’m grateful for the skills and talents that allow me to work on my own terms and decide my own pay. Honestly, I can’t think of anything more rewarding than being able to finally say you bow out of the rat race and will now tend to your own lane, PLUS help lots of other entrepreneurs and small business owners do the same.

But by no means am I saying this is an easy path. Last night while updating and tweaking some things on the SwagHer site, I crashed the site. I spent about 15 minutes freaking out and an hour and a half or so, troubleshooting and silently praying I wouldn’t need to contact my website host. When I finally solved the problem, I literally felt more badass than I did prior to the crash. I love what I do and I’m good at it, and what I’m not good at,  I work on continuously until I improve if not master, because I am still a perfectionist.

When they say entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone, it’s true. This journey isn’t for the faint of heart, but when you love what you do and embrace it, it can shape you in ways you hadn’t thought of before.  You have to want success more than life wants you to have it, and over time it becomes a labor of love.

Also here’s an interesting video about the history of Labor Day.
