The Television Academy added Tyler Perry’s name to the Governor’s List of Honorees. Perry is the first individual since 2014 to have this name added! Tyler Perry is the man! From homeless living in his car to now becoming a billionaire doesn’t happen overnight! I mean, wouldn’t that be great if you went to sleep with barely making it in life to waking up with a couple of extra zeros in your bank account? Of course! But with a man like Perry, who had a dream and never giving up on his dreams, landed him to where he is at today. Perry writes, directs, and produces all of his original work from movies to feature films. I mean, the guy is just that darn good! Not only is Perry all of that and more, but the most important thing is also that he gives people a chance to be in some of his films and return to the community.
Cicely Tyson, an American actress who has been in some of Perry’s films such as his debut film ‘Diary of a Black Woman,‘ ‘Madea’s Family Reunion,’ ‘Alex Cross,’ and ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?‘ has spoken favorably about Perry. According to an article in Variety, this is what Tyson had to say:
“He helps those who are mistreated and abused with no place to turn,” Tyson says. “He will step in, take over, help, and walk away. If he hears about a need or injustice, he is there. He is, by nature, a leader, a giver, a governor. And for the television and film industry, this man has created a monumental studio in Atlanta honoring several of us actors — myself included — with a sound stage.”
With all the good has done for people and communities, especially with Covid-19, how could he not deserve this award? Michelle Sneed, the President of Production Development in his 330-acred studio in Atlanta, has witnessed different first-hand innovations such as transforming his studio to ‘Camp Quarantine’ by keeping people in a bubble. That way, his actors can stay safe for filming TV series such as ‘The Oval,‘ ‘Sistas,’ ‘Bruh,’ and ‘Ruthless.’
