I often notice other business owners following other people and trends and wonder how do they have time to do it. I don’t know if writing is just more work or what, but I simply don’t have that type of free time. On one hand I’m ok with that, because I have never been one to worry about what others are doing, but on the other hand it is nice to be informed. One thing I’ve learned building a career in media, is things change with time, and I’m pretty sure it’s the same for whatever field you are in. Therefore, I found three ways to educate myself on my own time (or as flexible as I possibly can get) and thought I’d share with you all.
- Podcasts. I love podcasts! Some keep me current on news and events, while others enlighten me as a woman, sharing viewpoints I sometimes wonder if I’m mature enough to fathom, but I love the insight I’m able to get while I’m working. One of my favorite is “The Great Girlfriendsâ€. Sybil and Brandice always speak from a place of wisdom, but I particularly like how Sybil always seems to be to be able to place herself in the shoes of others. Yea, I’m a big fan, but podcasts are great for professional and personal development.Â
- Audiobooks. Again I’m using my ears, so I’m free to keep at work. I had to drop my Audible subscription when I began my fully self employed journey, but you can search “full audiobook†on YouTube and find some for free.
- Free Online Courses. Honestly even setting reminders doesn’t guarantee I’m going to make a scheduled online event. However, I take advantage of free online courses that allow me to work at my own pace. I’m currently enrolled in Travel Noire’s How To Get Paid To Travel (I actually may have paid for that one but it’s worth it).
The point is I’m continuing to learn on my own terms, and that’s very important as an entrepreneur, because we’re often busy. Don’t use your “busyness†as an excuse to stop mastering your craft. Don’t ever get so comfortable thinking you know everything, because there’s always something more.Â
