On November 30th NFL free agent wide receiver Terrelle Pryor was involved in a domestic dispute. The Pittsburgh resident suffered stab wounds to his shoulder and chest, as the domestic dispute escalated to a violent altercation. Pryor’s girlfriend Shalaya Briston was charged with attempted criminal homicide and aggravated assault. The attack took place at the Heinz Loft apartment complex.Â
According to the police report, Terrelle Pryor and his girlfriend Shalaya Briston went out to eat and drink with friends. The night out took a turn for the worst when the couple started arguing. Pryor went home while Briston and her friends decided to go to the club. After partying at the club, Briston went home and was met by Pryor in the hallway. The 6 foot 4, 227-pound Pryor knocked his 5 foot 6 girlfriend down to the ground. The physical altercation traveled from the hallway to the inside of the couple’s apartment. The battle continued into the kitchen where Briston stabbed Pryor in his shoulder and chest. Briston and her friends drove the wounded football player to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He was in critical condition but later upgraded to a stable condition.
A native of Jeannette, Pennsylvania, Pryor was the number one ranked quarterback in the country coming out of high school in 2008. He played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes. During his college career, he posted a 3 and 0 record versus long-time rival Michigan Wolverines.Â
Pryor was drafted in 2011 by the Oakland Raiders. He played quarterback for the Raiders from 2011-2013. After stops in Seattle, Kansas City, and Cincinnati, Pryor switched from quarterback to wide receiver as a member of the Cleveland Browns. After brief tenures with the Washington Redskins, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, and Jacksonville Jaguars, Pryor is currently without a team. The 30-year old is labeled an NFL free agent. Hours before the stabbing, Pryor posted an Instagram video of him doing push-ups. He was consistently working out and staying in shape. Pryor was hoping to receive another opportunity to play in the NFL. After becoming a victim of a stabbing, his comeback attempt suffered a major setback. Aside from the physical damage suffered, Pryor’s comeback attempt includes a legal obstacle. Despite suffering multiple stab wounds, Pryor was still charged with misdemeanor assault. As soon as he is discharged from the hospital, Pryor must turn himself in and go through the booking process.
Shalaya Briston appeared in court on the morning of December 4th. The 24-year old was denied bail and will remain in jail until her next court appearance on December 12th.
