Everyone in the Black community knows who Ice Cube is, right? You don’t know him? Well, let me introduce him. Ice Cube is a rapper and actor who first came about in the ’90s with his debut album, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted. Now, if you’re like me, you know very little about his rap career. His acting and filmmaking career is where I started to know about Ice Cube. Every movie he has been in has become iconic to the black community, movies like Boyz N the Hood, the Barbershop series, and The Players Club. If you are still a little confused about Ice Cube and his importance to black entertainment, I have one word, Friday. Every black child, mother, aunt, niece, and nephew has watched Friday at least once, and if you haven’t, you need to watch it now.Â
It’s no doubt that Ice Cube has been a prominent figure in our community, and with that, he has some things to say. He has introduced “A Contract with Black America: Addressing Racial Inequality.” Some things in this contract include:
- Mandatory civil rights and anti-racism classes in all Elementary schools.
- Black representation on all government civil rights investigative bodies.
- “Juneteenth” to become a federal holiday.Â
- Rates on black loans federally and from banks to be at same average rates as whites
- Recognize racism as a public health crisis that mandates a federal response.
- Declare the KKK a terrorist organization.
- Â Lynching to become a federal hate crime with a recommended federal sentence of life.Â
- Minimum 13.4% black cast and crew on all major Television and Film productions.Â
- Rename all streets, schools, public structures, towns, scholarships, etc. named after Confederate soldiers or leaders. Rename with names of black heroes.Â
That is just a few things that this contract entails, Ice Cube has publicly said that this contract was made to be perfected and debated. If you wish to make comments and suggestions on this contract, go to @icecube. Now, why is this good for black Americans? Black Americans have been walked over long enough. We have been enslaved and mistreated for far too long. It’s time for us to stand up and take charge, think of this contract as the black version of the constitution. The constitution was created to create a so-called equal union; this contract is the same thing. If you respect and uphold the constitution, then uphold and recognize this contract as a step in the right direction. Remember, black people, it is our time to have what we want and need. “To finally create the “more perfect union” all American’s deserve, it is time for a complete paradigm shift in how we run our institutions and operate our country.”
