Project Runway designer Joseph McRae returns to the runway on September 12. He will present at the fourth annual “One Sky. One Block. One Light” experience by Marcus Meets Malcolm.
McRae first competed on Season 21, finishing in ninth place. He returned for a second chance on Season 22. His bold style and confidence ruffle a few feathers. At times, it seemed as though the cast members and judges were eager to humble his confidence. Yet McRae continued to prove himself and, with the finale still to air, remains one of the final four designers.
I attended the event last year and loved its Harlem neighborhood atmosphere. West 120th Street is closed to traffic for the occasion. The outdoor runway stretches between Marcus Garvey Park and Malcolm X Boulevard. At night, the beautifully lit street creates a memorable setting for fashion.
This year, McRae will debut The Phoenix. The collection explores transformation, resilience, and the courage to walk through the fire. His website states, “THE PHOENIX is about that moment—the space between what has been and what comes next”.
