Judge Cranks 240-Day Sentence For Soulja Boy

Deandre Cortez Way, known to his legions of fans as Soulja Boy, publicly introduced himself to the hip hop world at the age of 17 in 2007 courtesy of his hit song “Crank That.” The chart topping song peaked at #1 on Billboard Hot 100. The song also achieved the status of Master Tone as it was the #1 ringtone on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.

In recent years Soulja Boy’s music career has simmered down, and his legal troubles have heated up. He has faced drug and weapon charges in 2011, 2014, and 2016. In February of 2019 authorities reportedly discovered ammunition during a raid of Soulja Boy’s home. The raid came after a woman claimed she was assaulted and held hostage there. Terms of the rapper’s probation barred him from possessing guns or ammunition. Soulja was arrested in early April 2019 prior to a meeting with his probation officer. In addition to possessing ammunition, Soulja Boy also failed to do his court ordered community service. He tried to falsify evidence to show he completed the community service, but the attempt failed.

Soulja has been detained for approximately three weeks, as he made a court appearance on April 30. The judge cranked a 240- day sentence in which the rapper will start serving immediately. The judge credited Soulja with 40 days served which leaves him with 200 days of hard time.
