A 29-year-old Black male is severely injured after being shot in the back by a police officer seven times.Â
Jacob Blake was attempting to break up a street fight between two females on Aug. 23 when police arrived after being called because of a domestic dispute. Blake and the police officers got into a disagreement. A brief scuffle occurred, and Blake was tased.Â
He got away from the situation and began to go back to his vehicle when one of the officers fired seven shots at his back while he was leaning into his vehicle to check on his sons, who were in the car. Four of the seven bullets hit Blake, and he was flown to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.Â
According to Patrick Salvi Jr, the Blake family attorney, “Blake suffered multiple injuries, including a gunshot wound to one arm, damage to his kidney, liver, and spinal cord… He had a bullet go through some or all of his spinal cord, at least one bullet. He has holes in his stomach. He had to have nearly his entire colon and small intestines removed…â€.
The names of the officers involved in this shooting have not been revealed. Blake is now paralyzed from the waist down. It is not known if his paralysis is permanent.Â
