K104 FM and Dallas Based Non-Profit, Urban Specialists, to Hold “Peace in the Streets” Town Hall to Stop Senseless Violence 

DALLAS, November 20, 2018 – K104 FM and Dallas based non-profit, Urban Specialists, are joining forces to present “Peace in our Streets,” a townhall event to address the senseless violence occurring in Dallas and the surrounding areas. The event is free, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Omni Dallas Hotel, 555 S. Lamar St, Dallas, TX 75202. Doors open for Peace in the Streets at 4 p.m. with a social hour, followed by food stations that open at 5 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m.

Led by Bishop Omar Jahwar, founder and CEO of Urban Specialists, executives and on-air personalities from K104 FM, the purpose of Peace in the Streets is to bring together gang leaders, block leaders, community influencers, rap artists and other leaders and influencers in the Dallas community to discuss the senseless violence in Dallas and create solutions to end it.

Peace in the Streets will draw celebrities, influencers and community leaders from Dallas and around the country including K104 FM personalities DJ Duffey, Lady Jade, GEO and Bay Bay; Antong Lucky, director of national invasion for Urban Specialists; music executive, Cortez Bryant, COO of Young Money Entertainment and best known for managing the careers of game-changing artists Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj, to name a few; Kali Vega, Dallas actress, model and comedian; and hip-hop/rap artist, B Simone. There will also be performances by Dallas rapper, Seven the Great and Laydee featuring Fayth Jefferson. There will be a special presentation in memory of slain rapper, Lil Snupe. There will also be a special moment with Denesha Carter, better known as Mama Snupe and other mothers of rappers killed in violence.

The event will conclude with a call to action where “block” leaders, “OGs” and other neighborhood leaders will sign a commitment to peace.

Bishop Omar Jahwar and Antong Lucky are dedicated to eradicating senseless violence around the country. Lucky, a former gang leader, founded the Bloods gang in Dallas in 1990 when he was just 13. After serving nearly four years in prison for drug and gang-related charges, he now mentors young people as the national director for Urban Specialists, a national nonprofit that works to end gun violence.

In a recent TIME magazine article, Lucky said, “It was in prison that I realized some important things that changed the course and trajectory of my life. My heart changed in prison. Once I got out, I began to work to end the cycle of gangs and guns in our communities I want people to know that redemption and transformation are real. There’s hope. We can make using guns and being violent nonexistent in the mind, if we keep working on it.”

Bishop Omar Jahwar is widely known all over the world for his results-driven approach to ending violence and bringing about positive change in communities of high crime and poverty. As founder and chief executive officer of Urban Specialists, Jahwar and his team are committed to revitalizing urban communities nationwide to end senseless violence. Jahwar has proven results in Dallas. He adopted sixteen streets in one of the most crime-ridden, impoverished neighborhoods in Dallas and through his leadership, there is a 58% decrease in crime in that area in just one year. He also adopted high schools in the community and they have seen a 72% reduction in violent incidents. Jahwar’s efforts to revive urban culture began over twenty years ago when he was appointed as the first gang specialist in the state of Texas. In this role, he negotiated peace terms between incarcerated rival gang members. He also brought over 400 gang members together and negotiated the first peace treaty between the infamous Bloods and Crips gangs in Dallas.
