Yesterday, Kehlani officially released the music video for “Back and Forth” featuring the incomparable Missy Elliott, and it’s exactly the kind of energy fans hoped for from two artists known for pushing creativity forward on their own terms.
Directed by Director X, the visual transforms a house party into an immersive experience layered with movement, intimacy, nostalgia, and personality. Kehlani’s signature emotional honesty blends effortlessly with Missy Elliott’s iconic charisma and innovation, creating a video that feels playful, confident, and deeply rooted in R&B culture. The video also includes a surprise appearance from R&B legend Monica, adding another layer of nostalgia and star power to an already standout collaboration.
“Back and Forth” appears on Kehlani’s self-titled album, Kehlani, which was released on her birthday in April and quickly became one of the year’s biggest R&B releases. The project debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, earning Kehlani the biggest debut for an R&B album by a woman this year.
The momentum surrounding the album has continued to build over the past several weeks. Alongside the release of the new video, Kehlani recently announced The Kehlani World Tour, a 41-date run presented by Live Nation that will take over stages across North America beginning August 6 in Minneapolis before wrapping October 4 in San Francisco. The tour will also head overseas later this year with stops across Europe and the UK, including Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, London, and Manchester.
Special guests Durand Bernarr, Isaia Huron, TheARTI$t, WASEEL, and Odeal will appear on select dates throughout the tour.
