Kristy Arrington Is Building More Than Crowns—She’s Building Confident Black Women Ready to Lead

For some women, pageantry is about the moment. The walk. The gown. The crown.

For Kristy Arrington, it’s always been about what happens after.

As the Founder and Executive State Director of Krowned by Kristy, LLC, Kristy has transformed her own pageant experience into a leadership ecosystem designed to help Black women grow in confidence, visibility, purpose, and presence. Through the Miss Black Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee USA Pageants—official state preliminaries to the nationally recognized Miss Black USA competition—she’s helping women step onto bigger stages, both literally and figuratively.

And while people often reduce pageantry to aesthetics, Kristy is clear: this work runs deeper.

Because behind every crown is discipline. Preparation. Visibility. Leadership. Healing. And often, a version of yourself you didn’t know was waiting to emerge.

From Crown to Calling

Before Kristy was producing state pageants, mentoring contestants, and building multi-state visibility platforms, she was standing in the same heels herself.

As Miss Black Mississippi USA 2017, she experienced the full emotional arc of competition firsthand—the pressure, preparation, nerves, and transformation that come with pursuing a title.

But once her year ended, something shifted.

“Competing gave me the opportunity to experience the journey firsthand,” she shares. “But transitioning into leadership changed how I saw everything. I no longer viewed the crown as just an achievement—it became a platform for confidence, leadership, and opportunity.”

That perspective became the heartbeat of Krowned by Kristy.

After assisting with collegiate competitions, local pageants, and eventually state productions, Kristy found herself equally passionate about what happened behind the scenes.

“Watching women grow in confidence, discipline, and self-worth became just as rewarding as competing myself.”Group of pageant contestants in colorful gowns on stage, wearing crowns and holding plaques with bouquets, as an audience looks on.

Redefining What Winning Looks Like

Pageantry has long carried assumptions—some deserved, some lazy.

The idea that it’s simply about appearance? Kristy actively pushes back against that.

“Winning isn’t always about receiving the title,” she says.

And honestly? That distinction changes everything.

Through Krowned by Kristy, she has intentionally built a space where women from different backgrounds, life experiences, and financial realities still feel welcome.

“I never want a woman to feel disqualified because of finances, social status, appearance, or where she comes from.”

Because yes, presentation matters. But so do confidence, preparation, authenticity, leadership, and purpose.

“Behind every crown is discipline, sacrifice, community service, public speaking, and the courage to be visible.”

Sometimes winning looks like the title.
Sometimes it looks like healing.
Sometimes it looks like finally recognizing your own power.

Building Leaders, Not Just Contestants

One of the biggest differences between Krowned by Kristy and the average competition prep experience? Intentional development.

This isn’t “show up, rehearse, smile, and hope.”

Contestants engage in:

  • monthly meetings
  • mentorship sessions
  • homework and competition study
  • leadership development
  • communication coaching
  • branding workshops
  • interview preparation
  • confidence-building experiences

Kristy also brings in subject matter experts to support contestants in areas beyond the pageant world itself.

“The goal is transformation,” she explains. “I want contestants to leave more confident, polished, disciplined, and aware of their value than when they started.”

Which makes this less about pageantry—and more about personal leadership development with excellent wardrobe choices.

Visibility Is More Than Aesthetic

As the creative force behind Krowned Kloset Boutique and Krowned Productions, Kristy understands how much visibility shapes opportunity.

But she’s equally clear that visibility without authenticity is forgettable.

“Presentation matters because people form perceptions quickly,” she says. “But true presence goes far beyond clothing or aesthetics. It’s confidence, authenticity, and understanding who you are.”

Rather than forcing women into one narrow image of success, Kristy focuses on refinement—not replication.

“My role is not to create copies,” she says. “It’s to help women elevate what already makes them unique.”

And in today’s visibility-driven world? That’s the difference between being seen and being remembered.

Growing Across Three States With One Mission

Leading organizations across Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee requires more than ambition. It requires adaptability.

Each market brings its own culture, traditions, and community dynamics—but Kristy has remained committed to building something that feels both scalable and personal.

“Representation matters,” she says. “I wanted women from these states to feel seen, heard, and empowered on a national stage.”

That growth happened intentionally—first Mississippi, then Tennessee, and most recently Arkansas.

And with every expansion came the same mission: create meaningful access for Black women to lead, grow, and own their visibility.

This summer, Kristy is bringing that mission to one of the most culturally significant weekends in the country.

On July 5, 2026, during Essence Festival of Culture weekend, Krowned by Kristy, LLC and A Van Dyke Productions will host an exclusive Send-Off Party & Live Podcast Experience celebrating the 2026 State Queens before they head to nationals.

For Kristy, it’s a full-circle moment.

During her own reign, Essence Festival became one of the most unforgettable parts of her journey—the energy, the sisterhood, the feeling of being surrounded by Black excellence.

Now, she’s creating that same experience for the next generation.

Attendees can expect:
✨ candid live podcast conversations
✨ networking
✨ brunch
✨ celebration
✨ conversations around identity, confidence, visibility, leadership, and pageantry

“It’s about creating a room where women feel seen, supported, and celebrated before stepping onto one of the biggest stages of their lives.”

So what does living with SwagHer look like for Kristy in this season?

For her, it’s bigger than image. Bigger than confidence. Bigger than public visibility.

“Living with SwagHer means embracing authenticity, purpose, and leadership—even when the vision makes sense to you before it makes sense to anyone else.”

And honestly? That might be the clearest definition of visionary leadership there is.

Because real impact isn’t measured by titles.

It’s measured by the women who leave your orbit stronger than they entered it.
