Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing caused a media frenzy as he faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, a research psychologist and psychology professor was the first to come forward—recounting a blurred testimony of sexual assault by Kavanaugh in the early 1980s. Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick soon followed with similar allegations.Â
It came as no surprise that Trump and most of the Senate supported Kavanaugh’s confirmation—despite Dr. Ford’s emotional testimony and several classmates who attested to Kavanaugh’s alleged bouts with public intoxication. Whether Kavanaugh was guilty of sexual misconduct or not, it was clear that he lacked the temperament to serve as a member of the Supreme Court.Â
What some described as a passionate plea of innocence was an all-to-familiar indication of suppressed rage to others. Nevertheless, against the better judgment of many, Kavanaugh’s confirmation proceeded as he claimed the last remaining seat in the highest court in the country. With yet another scathing chapter in history clashing like the bars of Rikers Island, many are left wondering, where do we go from here?Â
Kavanaugh’s case, like many social injustices in the past few years, ensures one thing—America is mad as hell and they aren’t keeping quiet about. Media correspondents, celebrities and constituents alike have been vocal about the daily political atrocities led by Trump. Kavanaugh may have won the battle, but the war is far from over.Â
It appears, now more than ever, Democrats (and some Republicans with liberal leanings) are determined to reclaim our judicial system. Rumored Presidential hopefuls Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA)and Corey Booker (D-MD) have been consistently hitting the airwaves and social media—encouraging constituents to vote as if their lives depended upon it.Â
Thankfully, the tides are beginning to turn. African-American Democrats have emblazoned a winning trail in the primaries, with Andrew Gillum (FL), Stacey Abrams (GA) and Ben Jealous (MD) all vying for governor. It’s clear that minorities are taking heed Harris and Booker’s plea, as Black voters have been showing up in record numbers (particularly millennials). Will the momentum continue, or will Republicans maintain control of Congress and the Senate?Â
With elections across the country fast approaching, leave nothing to chance. Cast your vote and let your vote be your voice.Â
