Meet HerConClave Speaker, Zedra Bailey

Zedra Bailey was born and raised in Suffolk, Va. The oldest of four, two sisters and a brother. She is a fashion/ makeup consultant by profession. In December of last year, she made a vow to God to feed His sheep by being ordained as a minister of the gospel. It was one of her greatest achievements. Her hobbies are singing, decorating and writing. The gift of poetry is God-given, and it allows Bailey to speak to people while God speaks through her. She started writing at the young age of 12 years old, and it has carried her through many obstacles. It is her pleasure to minister through writing and speaking.

Christina: What was the hardest thing you’ve ever had to go through in life? Did it end how you expected it to?

Zedra: The hardest trial I had to endure was in 2017. I was separated from my husband during the time I was going in to have surgery. Unable to return to work due to being out longer than expected, my job was depleted. I lost my home and became homeless. It didn’t end the way I expected, but it was better than where I was before.

Christina: Suppose you could go back to your younger self, in a season where you thought you had it all. What would you say to your younger self?

Zedra:  I would go back to the season of living with my grandmother as a teenager, telling myself to get all the wisdom you can because you’re going to need it to survive.

Christina: How meaningful are friendships to you? Do you value your friendships, your sisterhood, more than you value material possessions?

Zedra: Having a meaningful friendship is like family; it teaches you, guides you, comforts you, and protects you. If you find that in a friend, you’ve found something more valuable than anything materialistic.

Christina: Why did you decide to become a minister?

Zedra: I did not decide to become a minister. God called me. After running from what I knew I had in me, my gifts, and reaching people. God began to call me, and I had to answer. To be called is one thing but to be chosen is privileged.

Christina: How has your writing style changed from when you were younger to now?

Zedra: At an early age in school, making up stories to read for book reports, I knew I had a gift. Teachers would ask for those books, and I couldn’t produce them because they came from within. Looking back, it was amazing. As I matured, I became more into writing poetry. I found that I could express who I am as a person and help deliver people by writing the real. My goal is to write an audiobook of poetry.
