Meet Married to Medicine LA Star, Lia Dias

Lia Dias is an entrepreneur, real estate mogul, former model, mother and wife. She has been a prominent figure and voice in the community advocating for women empowerment and realistic beauty in the industry. Dias joined the cast of season two of Bravo’s hit TV show Married To Medicine Los Angeles in Spring 2020. Originally from Inglewood, California, the business-savvy entrepreneur wears many hats including co-owning and operating KLC Consultants, a medical staffing company, with her husband. She is the owner of The Girl Cave Los Angeles, a chain of beauty supplies and lifestyle brands in Los Angeles, which fuels her passion.

Patrice: What is your SwagHer? What makes Lia, Lia?

Lia: What makes me who I am is so many different things! I am passionate; I love to solve problems, to create. I love to see other people win. I am also very opinionated, and I love hard. Did I forget to mention I love shopping!

Patrice: You mentioned that you are a former model. What type of model were you, and how long were you ripping the runways?

Lia: I was a print model! It was so much fun … I got to do national campaigns for Murad and Dickie’s. Most of my work was done with emerging fashion brands.

Patrice: Triple-Threat is definitely you! You are balancing motherhood and being an entrepreneur. Could you give us some suggestions on balancing the life of an entrepreneur and being a mother all at the same time?

Lia: I balance everything by starting my days early. You can’t imagine how many things I get done before my kids wake up! I have also learned to have grace with myself when I do fall short and just do the best I can. I have realistic expectations for myself.

Patrice: Adding reality TV to your resume, you are now part of Married to Medicine’s cast. How do you like being one of the castmates on the show?

Lia: I had a rough time adjusting to the show’s filming schedule and merging with the existing group of ladies. It is a tough bunch, lol! However, being on the show taught me a lot about myself. Watching my reactions to what others do and say forced me to look at myself in a way I have never before.

Patrice: How did you get the role on the show?

Lia: My link to the show is Dr. Imani Walker. She and my husband Colin work together at Gateway’s hospital here in LA. We met and had a connection, and as simple as it sounds, the rest kind of just happened.

Patrice: Tell us more about KLC Consultants. When did that all start?

Lia: KLC Consultants is a medical staffing company and addiction clinic my husband and I own. I jokingly say this is the one part of our lives where I take the back seat. My role as one of the founders is to support my husband as he tackles very complicated medical concerns.

Patrice: Let us dive right into The Girl Cave Los Angeles. What was the inspiration behind creating this beauty brand?

Lia: The Girl Cave, LA, was born after watching and understanding that black women have been locked out of the beauty supply market, where we are the biggest consumers. Can you imagine being able to buy hair products but not having an opportunity to sell them? The frustration of not being treated well as a consumer drove me to create a retail space where women felt welcomed.

Patrice: How are you embracing women empowerment within your business ventures?

Lia: I am on a daily quest to empower women by creating ownership opportunities for other women. Recently we shifted to a franchise model so other women can experience and thrive at ownership. Putting women in a position to do what they love and make money is the most empowering experience!

Patrice: What advice would you give someone trying to start their own business but have trouble connecting the dots?

Lia: I always tell new business owners to do your homework! So many times, people don’t explore all their options because someone else says it can’t be done. If I went with every “NO” I was told, I wouldn’t have any success.

Patrice: Where do you see yourself in five years?

Lia: In five years, I see my businesses being established across the country. I am working hard on creating systems so we can continue to grow. I would love to see a Girl Cave, LA, in every major city in the US.
