Nailah Queen is a wife, mother, and serial entrepreneur. She studied computer networking and switched to sociology before deciding that that wasn’t the direction she wanted to go in. Queen started working for Baltimore City Rec and Parks and loved it. Then because she’s always had a passion for youth with behavioral and emotional problems, she switched careers and started working for the State of Maryland Department of Juvenile Services and has been for the past 15 years. She still felt she wasn’t living up to her fullest potential, so she decided to step out on faith and become an entrepreneur to leave a legacy for her son and family. While still working full time, she started Royalty Escapes Travel Agency over six years ago. Since then, she has opened Regally Insane Hair and Body Health Line and Realeza Styles Travel Clothing and Accessory Line, all while still maintaining her full-time position with the State. She is very involved in mentoring other entrepreneurs and travel agents just starting out and connecting with seasoned entrepreneurs to build the African American entrepreneur community. It’s important to be part of the change we want to see, and entrepreneurship allows us to have a seat at the table without asking for it.
Regally Insane is a health and beauty company that was started from my dining room table in 2020. Queen was experiencing hair loss from the stress of the pandemic and started researching natural remedies with oils. She came across soo much information and decided to create a blend of 11 oils, bottled it, and started to use it. Guess what…It worked! After showcasing my hair growth, the oil, and its benefits, she had many people wanting to buy it, so she gifted several bottles that she created by hand. She decided that it was time. She wanted to put this product out to the masses and other health supplements geared towards overall body health. It was then that Regally Insane Health and Beauty line was birthed.
Where there’s a problem, we are here to fix it when it comes to natural body health and beauty. We are worried about traveling, especially during COVID, without proper protection for your body while also helping natural hair clients maintain healthy hair care and increase hair growth.
With this business, Queen thought outside of the box with products that are familiar but gave them a different meaning when it pertains to people’s lives. There aren’t many products specifically targeted for travelers or essential “people-on-the -go” as our line focuses on ailments and health issues that directly affect our community. Her personal investment in our hairline is proven and true as she is not only the CEO, but she started as the first client, so she understands the struggles of those who we service…because they are basically “HER.”
Christina: What is your SwagHer? What makes Nailah, Nailah?
Nailah: I’m unapologetic when it comes to how I live my life. My focus is happiness, and it took a long time for me to achieve this and understand what that entirely meant. I have accepted and allowed my past to define me because it shaped me into the woman here before you. I am a leader, a businesswoman, a wife, mother, sister, friend, and supporter of everyone BLACK winning.
Christina: Tell us a little bit more about your other business, Regally Insane Hair and Body Health Line.
Nailah: Well, it’s my COVID business, baby *laugh*. I started it during the pandemic.
Right after lockdown, I started stress shedding and losing my hair. I didn’t know what to do because I’m natural and didn’t want to use any chemicals, so I started researching and came up with an 11 oil blend that worked. After that, people started requesting it, so shortly after, Regally Insane was born.
Christina: Why is hair and body health so important to you?
Nailah: They both go hand in hand, you know. One can’t be healthy without the other, so if we address both, we have a complete balance. Hair is an important feature we often overlook until we don’t have it as an option or fear losing it. Same with our body, and particularly in our community, we suffer from multiple health issues (ex. high blood pressure, diabetes, anxiety, arthritis, obesity). Suffering from health ailments myself, I felt we need to address them and figure out ways to control and prevent them without medication, if necessary.
Christina: Did you ever discover what was causing your own hair loss?
Nailah: I sure did…STRESS. I had just lost my father from what I now believe was COVID and was planning a beautiful destination wedding in Mexico that then became uncertain with COVID causing lockdown and travel being heavily affected. Couple that with just the uncertainty and anxiety, and there went my hair.
Christina: What are some products that Regally Insane Hair and Body Health Line carry?
Nailah: Well, for our hairline, we carry multiple scents for hair oil and Beard oil/balm. The botanical blend and extreme hair growth capsules and hair gummies are our best sellers with that line. As for the body wellness line, we have a multitude of items ranging from turmeric gummies, elderberry supplements, keto fat burners, body detox, and B-12 energy drops, but our “Kickstart My Day” Apple Cider Vinegar gummies and “Find Your Chill” anxiety supplements are our best sellers.
Christina: So, do you make the products yourself, or do you assist in the making of them in any way, such as suggesting the ingredients to include or avoid?
Nailah: We make the botanical blend ourselves. We have a special oil blend and flower infusion that’s a bit more complicated to have produced, so we assume that responsibility. We guide and advise on our other products. If it’s something that doesn’t align with our vision or brand, we don’t carry it.
Christina: Which one of your products can truly promote hair growth? What are the ingredients?
Nailah: Well, it’s two actually, and you use them together. The “Grow Like Crazy” extreme hair growth capsules contain 10,000 mg of biotin per capsule, which is a hefty amount. The botanical blend is the other with almond, aloe, coconut, avocado, grapeseed, peppermint, jojoba, rosemary, tea tree, lavender, and lemongrass oil.
Christina: Did you have any transferable skills from your other work that helped you with this business venture?
Nailah: I think my knowledge of how important branding and knowing your ideal client had given me an advantage when I started this business venture. Coupled that with excellent customer service skills, identifying a problem, and finding a solution gave me a head start.
Christina: How do you manage to work full-time and keep up with three businesses?
Nailah: Lots of prayer and support, especially from my husband. I’m completely honest… It’s a LOT. We often see the face behind the brand and think that person made it happen alone, which is so far from the truth. It’s not always who we see in the limelight but those making sacrifices in the shadows that make that limelight even possible. I’m grateful for my husband and my support system. My agents hold me down with the agency, and we have crazy support from people all over family and friends.
Christina: Do you have any upcoming events or projects that you would like our readers to know about?
Nailah: We have lots of pop-ups coming up. We usually post it on our Facebook and Instagram pages to let people know. We are looking to expand the brand at the top of the year, so stay tuned for that. I’m excited.
