We are the Cool Kinda Crazy Podcast! Tonnesha brings the crazy in a good way, while Miracle G keeps it calm, cool, and collected. We started this podcast to have a platform where we can dialogue about topics and issues that we experience as young black women living in this crazy world. We would typically have these discussions while out eating/drinking. People would overhear us on multiple occasions and say something like, “Y’all are kinda crazy, but y’all seem like y’all would be cool to hang out with.” Hence the name of the podcast! We hope that what we discuss here sparks conversations amongst our listeners and their friends. We welcome you into our world and our #CoolKrazyCrew !
Miracle G was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA, where she still resides today. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the Xavier University of Louisiana in Biology-Pre Med (2014) and her master’s degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in Medical Genetics and Genomics (2019). If it’s not apparent, her passion is medicine/healthcare, and she plans to attend medical school soon to become a physician. She currently works in social services. Outside of her career, she is actively involved in her church and enjoys spending time with her family/friends. For her, the Cool Kinda Crazy Podcast presented the opportunity to work with her best friend, Tonnesha, to initiate much-needed discussions through the minds of young, black millennial women. She hopes that what they discuss will provoke their listeners’ thoughts and inspire both fun and necessary dialogue.Â
Tonnesha Foster, a native of Baton Rouge LA, moved to New Orleans LA, to attend the Xavier University of Louisiana. She now holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication. Tonnesha recently started a podcast joined by her best friend of over 20 years to discuss current events and topics that occur while being a young black woman in society. With the podcast and freelance firm, Tonnesha plans to expand and use both platforms to grow and help others grow along the way successfully.
Christina: How would you describe your SwagHer? What makes Miracle, Miracle? What makes Tonnesha, Tonnesha?
Miracle: I think what makes me who I am is my character. I’m huge on respect, integrity, humility, and compassion, all of which I believe are necessary for interacting with all people, including those I’ve known forever or maybe someone I’ve only met once. I guess my goal is to be my authentic self. Even though I don’t always get it right, I hope people can see who I am despite my many flaws.Â
Tonnesha: What makes me is my contagious attitude and smile. When I encounter people, they can immediately feel it within the first minute of our interaction. If someone is having a bad day, I can make a person feel better almost immediately with my goofy laugh and personality. I’m big on keeping it real and remaining honest.Â
Christina: Why did you all start the podcast?
Miracle & Tonnesha: We started the podcast because we would find ourselves having casual conversations all the time. People would be like ear hustling us and using us for their entertainment. So, we decided that we should create a platform where we could discuss different topics that interest us and, hopefully, other people.Â
Christina: How long have you all known each other?
Miracle & Tonnesha: We’ve known each other for as long as we can remember. Honestly, we don’t know if we can give an exact number of years lol, but if we had to guess, we would say 23+ years or so.
Christina: What types of topics do you all discuss on the podcast?
Miracle & Tonnesha: Honestly, we talk about everything from relationships to self-help topics to what’s happening in the world. Our topics are usually inspired by something we’ve experienced personally, witnessed, or heard about from a friend/coworker. We try to find a balance between discussing fun topics and more serious discussions that we think are important to have.Â
Christina: You both have full-time jobs; how do you manage to have time to record the podcast?Â
Miracle: We try to set a recurring weekly day to record, which is usually Tuesday. But it’s not always easy because I know for me there are times when I’m like I don’t feel like doing this today. Even though it’s like a hobby, it also takes thought and work to get it together, and I don’t always feel like putting forth the effort. But it’s also something that I enjoy, so I push myself in those moments to keep going.
Tonnesha: While managing time is very difficult, the podcast fits in organically as any other daily routine like exercising, cooking, or spending hours gossiping on the phone would. When we have special guests on the show, that’s when things can get a little complicated.Â
Christina: What motivates you?
Miracle: I’m self-motivated by my goals and what I want for my life in the future. I’m also motivated by my family, specifically my parents, because they’ve given so much to me that I want to give back to them.Â
Tonnesha: I am motivated by self-improvement. I always want to be better then I was yesterday, last week, last month, and so forth. I only have something to prove for myself, and that’s my biggest motivation.Â
Christina: What’s next for the Cool Kinda Crazy podcast?
Miracle & Tonnesha: We want to see the podcast continue to grow and thrive. We want to find ways to engage with the listeners because we want to interact with them and know their opinions on the topics we discuss. Eventually, we may be able to build it into a business that includes apparel, live shows, events, etc.Â
Christina: What does success mean to you?
Miracle: My definition of success is being in a place where I am mentally and financially stable. When I say mentally, I mean that I have created an environment that brings me peace, joy, and love. Although I know something will always go wrong in life, I’ll be able to roll with the punches and know that I’ll always make it through. Financially, I want to reach my career goals and provide a comfortable lifestyle for my family and me.
Tonnesha: I define success as being happy with your current situation. Everyone isn’t meant to be a millionaire, famous, or whatever the average person would describe successful as. Success is what you want it to be and being able to take care of your business without it being a struggle in all aspects of your life.Â
Christina: Do you have anything you would like our readers to know?Â
Miracle & Tonnesha: Just that we are two young black women who came up with an idea and are doing our best to make it successful. Hopefully, that inspires others to do the same. And we believe in mutual support, so we support those who support us…so SUPPORT US! Lol.Â
