Fancy: How would you describe your SwagHer? What makes Browniesha, Browniesha?

Browniesha: I would say that my SwagHer is my boldness and authenticity. The thing that makes me is my resilience. No matter how many times I fall, I get back up, dust myself off, and continue the journey.

Fancy: What condition does your son live with?

Browniesha: My son, Ricky, is diagnosed with cerebral palsy, a seizure disorder, and mild retardation.

Fancy: What is it like being the parent of a special needs child?

Browniesha: Being a special needs mom has its ups and downs. My son brings me so much joy and pushes me to tap into the strengths I didn’t know I had, but on the other hand, some days are overwhelming with emotions. I am a single parent, so I carry the whole load, which can be depleting.

Fancy: How did you learn to navigate through the red tape of the system?

Browniesha: Honestly, through trial and error. I learned things along the way. I’ve come across some amazing social workers and therapist that helped me out.

Fancy: Did Our Children’s Story (OCS) play a part in that?

Browniesha: No, I didn’t meet Libra in that capacity.

Fancy: As for the Purple & Green Gala, what are you looking forward to?

Browniesha: I’m looking forward to connecting with other like-minded individuals and supporting one another.

Fancy: Is there a specific subject you will be speaking on?

Browniesha: Maintaining our mental health.

Fancy: If there were one thing you would like our readers to know about the special needs community or being a part of it, what would that be?

Browniesha: For every reader, we are a unique group of people who were given an assignment, and we learn to adapt daily.
