More than just the Suspension of Track Star Sha’Carri Richardson

It has been announced that Sha’Carri Richardson has been suspended for testing positive for chemicals found in Marijuana.  She appeared on the Today Show where she was honest and transparent about her actions. She was a favorite in the women’s 100 meters but will possibly be able to participate in the 4×100 meter relay should she be added to the U.S. Team.

This is more than just about her suspension – this is about how she chose to cope and deal with such a traumatic event in her life.

This 21-year-old young lady had just lost her mother and in spite of all of that:

1. Became the 6th Fastest Women in History

2. Set the record in 2021 for running the 100m in 10.72 seconds

3. In 2019 Broke the record for 100 in 10.75 seconds

Many have had so much to say about her appearance ( hair and nails) but as she stated in her tweet. She is human.

Nike along with celebrities such as Gabrielle Union have also expressed support of Sha’Carri in a series of tweets.

The conversation has been started on how individuals especially black women are viewed when dealing with life and other triggering and traumatic experiences. As seen with Naomi Osaka not participating in the media/press days during the French Open due to her mental health resulting in her withdrawing from the second round of the French Open and Wimbleton.

We are still rooting for you Sha’Carri!
