It’s been reported that Nia DaCosta, who is also the director of the highly anticipated Candyman remake with Jordan Peele has been tapped by Disney and Marvel Studios to direct Captain Marvel 2.

While the movie’s budget is still unknown at this time, it is sure to be one of the biggest budgeted films by a Black film director, following Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time. Who knows, it may even do better. The first Captain Marvel film was released in March of 2019, starring Brie Larson, who will also star in the sequel, and it grossed over one point $1.13 billion dollars worldwide.

The 30-year old Brooklyn native first caught Hollywood’s attention with her indie film, Little Woods, which was well received.

Neither DaCosta nor Disney and Marvel Studios have commented on the deal, but it is known that studios had been meeting with candidates over several months. Sis made the cut!
