One Year After Montgomery Brawl, Commemorative Walk to Take Place

One year after the Montgomery Brawl, a commemorative walk is to take place.

Local Montgomery leader, Candyce “Ce” Anderson, M.S., L.P.C. will host a Commemorative Walk through the Feminine Flow Experience on Monday, August 5th, 2024 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. Women are encouraged to wear yellow or pink as they take an emotional and impactful walk to the Alabama River and lay roses in remembrance.

The event begins at 5:30 pm with participants gathering at the Court Square Fountain where they receive a bouquet of roses. An opening ceremony will kick off the evening featuring spoken words and a drummer. Healers will lead the way in prayer down Commerce Street to the Alabama River at the site of the 2023 Montgomery Brawl. Participants will place their roses in the river before the event concludes with a gratitude circle sharing what the event and community mean to them.

The location along the Alabama River was chosen to honor the events of the Montgomery Brawl on the first anniversary of the event as well as the violent and tragic history the location plays in Montgomery’s history. Commerce Street was used to transport cotton before slavery was abolished and served as the path former enslaved Africans walked to the auction house. The walk serves as a remembrance for the pain and violence that has taken place but more importantly, for the healing that allows the world to move compassionately towards change.

Anderson founded and designed the Feminine Flow Experience to be a weekend women’s conference devoted to the intricate dance of emotional, mental, and physical well-being, fueled by the mission to help others harness their inner strength and raise their consciousness to create the life, relationships, and existence they desire.

In 2023, the conference went viral on social media and made national headlines as an “instigator” of the unforgettable Montgomery Brawl. In an article with USA Today, Anderson confirmed that hours before the brawl, she and conference attendees walked down to the Montgomery Riverfront for the signature petal toss ceremony. While social media trolls declared the act to be “witchcraft” and the catalyst that sparked the brawl, Anderson assured in the article as well as on her own social media, that the act was simply to give reverence to African ancestors and could be likened to laying mementos in a casket at a funeral for a loved one, or laying flowers on their grave out of respect and remembrance.

Tickets for the Commemorative Walk are $10 and cover the cost of flowers. For more details and registration, visit https://www.feminineflowexperience.com/.
