The National Urban League’s 6th Annual Women in Harmony Awards Luncheon brought star power, sisterhood, and celebration to the Ritz-Carlton in New Orleans during Essence Festival weekend on Saturday, July 5, 2025. The exclusive red carpet affair, themed “Her Power, Her Prosperity,” honored four trailblazing Black women whose work continues to shape culture, politics, and beauty: music icon Patti LaBelle, acclaimed TV creator Mara Brock Akil, U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), and beauty entrepreneur Danessa Myricks.

The event was a true celebration of Black excellence and community. Attendees—over 350 in total—were treated to moving performances by GRAMMY-winning singers Howard Hewett and MAJOR, and were inspired by mindset coach and bestselling author Dr. Cheryl P. Williamson, who delivered powerful words of encouragement and purpose.

Beyond the stage, guests engaged in intentional self-care moments at the event’s “Self-Care Lounge,” which showcased beauty consultations from Danessa Myricks Beauty and other wellness brands.

In a moment that resonated deeply with the crowd, National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial and Senior Vice President and CMO Rhonda Spears Bell applauded the honorees for using their platforms to uplift and empower. “This year’s slate of honorees are individuals who not only recognize the power of their platforms but are also not afraid to speak up and empower others to do the same,” said Spears Bell.

Notable attendees included actress Tisha Campbell, singer Stephanie Mills, activist Jotaka Eaddy, DJ and cultural icon D-Nice, fashion designer Sergio Hudson, TV personality Marlo Hampton, actress Crystal Renee Hayslett, and many more.

The Women in Harmony Awards Luncheon continues to serve as a vibrant reminder of the brilliance and leadership Black women bring to every industry. The event’s heartfelt tone, cultural richness, and commitment to community made it a highlight of Essence Fest weekend and a testament to the legacy of the National Urban League.
