Queen Sugar Resumes Production for Revamped Season 5

Queen Sugar will resume production in New Orleans for the remainder of the ten episodes of season five. In March, the production shut down for seven months due to Covid-19. While production shut down, the creator of the show, Ava DuVermay, decided to revamp the remainder of the season to reflect the real issues the country is facing through the eye of the Bordelon family. The Television Academy Honors recently recognized the show for the powerful portrayal of an African-American family from the South. The show, led by cast members Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Kobi Siriboe, the Queen Sugar storylines, talks about important topics such as police brutality, addiction, recovery, and racism.
