Rap Veteran Fat Joe to Host BET Awards

The annual BET Hip Hop Awards 2022 will premiere on October 4, at 9/8c on BET, with rap veteran Fat Joe as host.

BET has been a longstanding hub for Black entertainment, music, and culture as the network has carved out a space to celebrate our artistry and achievements with countless television programs, media initiatives, and awards shows. Since its debut in 2006, the BET Hip Hop Awards has been among the lineup serving as an homage to the cultural phenomenon that is Hip Hop while honoring and showcasing the talents of both the pioneering legends and leaders of the new school in the game. With hard-hitting performances, bar-for-bar ciphers, and tributes to the greats, these awards show never miss a beat.

An esteemed panel of music industry insiders selected solidified game changer honorees and voted for the who’s-who nominees in categories that include Best Rap Duo/Group, Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist and Lyricist of The Year, to name a few. This year’s show will be tapped at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta, GA — arguably the current stomping grounds for the modern-day sound of the rap genre.

Grammy-nominated rapper, Fat Joe will be taking the helm of the night’s festivities, a staple MC from the heart of Hip hop’s birthplace of the Bronx, New York. “Fat Joe is hip hop royalty. He is a treasured friend of the network.. We can’t wait to watch him take the stage with his vivacious energy,” says BET’s EVP, Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategist, Connie Orlando. Fat Joe, also known by the moniker Joey Crack has been lacing tracks since the early 90’s when he emerged as part of the rap crew Terror Squad with fellow rap heavy weights, the late Big Pun and femcee, Remy Ma. Since his arrival, Fat Joe has managed to transition with the sound of hip-hop and has added entrepreneur and philanthropist to his repertoire.

Fat Joe is no stranger to hosting as he’s ventured into the media space as of late, hosting his own nightly Instagram live/ Revolt talk show, “The Fat Joe Show,” and is the official host of Triller’s VERZUS after show. There’s a current buzz of a talk show pilot in the works with Starz network with Joey Crack in partnership with fellow hip hop mogul P. Diddy as well. So it’s safe to say today’s price is “All the Way UP” for the rapper-morphed media personality!

When asked what we can expect from him as master of ceremony for the highly anticipated BET Hip Hop Awards 2022, the “Lean Back” rapper chimed, “this will be the BIGGEST awards show in history. We’re going to celebrate music, culture, and entertainment, honor the biggest and brightest stars in the world and make this an unforgettable night full of laughs and surprises. Always remember that yesterday’s host is not today’s host.”

Performers and presenters for the BET Hip Hop Awards 2022 have yet to be announced, but something tells me that the likes of Atlanta native Lil Baby, chart-topper Drake, and Meg THE (Hot Girl) Stallion will be among the attendees and artists blazing the stage.

Will you be tuning in to the show, Swagher fam, and if so, who are you checking for?
