Being the offspring of a famous parent has its pros and cons. A definite pro is the fact that you have the opportunity to grow up on a set or grow up in a studio. You get the luxury of having access behind the scenes and viewing the full scope regarding the process. Other pros include possessing a gateway to key connections and having a famous parent who could serve as a mentor. A clear-cut con is the reality of you having to live up to the name your famous parent made. It becomes your inherited duty to live up to the hype. The challenge is finding a way to clear your own path to success.Â
A very talented young lady has stepped up to the challenge of clearing her own path. She’s already found success in the entertainment industry, and she is preparing to take things to the next level with the October release of her debut album.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Chrissy knew at an early age that she wanted to have a career in the entertainment industry. Her father is a well-known Film director, Record producer, Screenwriter, and Film producer. Following in her dad’s footsteps, Chrissy has shown she’s also multi-talented. She has collected film credits as an actress and a Production Designer. Now she’s ready to make a transition as she ventures into the world of music.
Sports/Entertainment Journalist Vince D’Writer had the pleasure of chatting with the talented Actress/Singer Chrissy.
Vince: Define your SwagHer. What makes Chrissy, Chrissy?
Chrissy:Â I will say what makes me, me is the fact that I try to be unapologetically who I am. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always been the same. My personality overall is the same. I don’t let others influence me, and I’m just being Chrissy, who is happy, energetic, down to earth, and outgoing.
Vince: What was your childhood like?
Chrissy:Â My childhood was kind of weird because my mom was normal, and my dad is Chris Stokes. My mom always wanted me to be normal. She always wanted me to go to regular school and not be homeschooled, but then I was still going out on auditions, and I grew up in the studio and on movie sets. It was kind of cool because I had the best of both worlds.
Vince: What type of high school student was Chrissy?
Chrissy:Â My freshman and sophomore year, I was homeschooled, and my junior and senior year I was in public school. I was a good student. I was on the honor roll, trying to do my thing.
Vince: Your first paid acting gig was on the TNT drama series ‘Southland.’ How did that opportunity develop?
Chrissy:Â Earlier, I told you that my mom wanted me to be normal, and my dad was like, go homeschool so you can learn the business. I actually had a deal with my mom, and I said, mom, can I get homeschooled if I book this role? She was like if you book an acting gig, you can get homeschooled. I was like okay, cool. So the ‘Southland’ TNT audition came up, and I was like this is an opportunity to get out of regular school. I did the best that I could, and thankfully I got the role. Then my mom let me do homeschool after that.
Vince: For multiple movies such as ‘Til Death Do Us Part’ and ‘We Belong Together,’ you have film credits as a Production Designer. What are the job duties in regards to being a Production Designer?
Chrissy:Â Basically, you try to make the director’s vision come to life through the set. If the director wants it to look like a kitchen, then you have to make the set look like a kitchen. I make sure it gets done with a team of set dressers.Â
Vince: Tell me about the series ‘Howard High,’ and why we should watch it?
Chrissy:Â I would watch it because it’s positive. There is a lot of negativity going on right now, and this is positive with real-life situations. It’s a musical, positive vibe, and something the whole family can watch.
Vince: In ‘Howard High,’ you play Nicki. Describe your character?
Chrissy:Â She is reserved, but once you get to know Nicki, she becomes outgoing. She’s a young woman trying to find her place and find who she is.
Vince: In addition to acting, you’re also a singer. The debut album “Taken,” drops in October. Talk about the album, and describe the Chrissy sound.
Chrissy:Â I would describe the Chrissy sound as vibey like. It’s just good songs you can relax to, drink wine, and chill.
