With the new year right around the corner, it’s no secret that a few of us are already debating what new leaf or leaves to turn in 2019. Though bettering yourself should be something that takes places throughout the year, there’s nothing wrong with using the new year to start fresh and hit the ground running. When it comes to resolutions, the goal is to work towards something that’s not going to be a cake walk. It’s easier to say “I’m going to stop smoking” and commit to it if you’ve only smoked once a day for a brief period of time. It’s a bit harder if you’ve smoked a half to a whole pack per day for years. Getting in shape, eating better, changing smoking and drinking habits, and putting an end to procrastination are just some of the resolutions that countless individuals swear by. While these are all great places to start, there’s nothing wrong with digging deeper within yourself to choose a New Year’s Resolution. Here are some resolutions that will help grow your mind and spirit.

1) Be more confident/take risks
It’s true that stepping outside of your comfort zone can be frightening, but remaining the same is usually more harmful to your future. New levels might being new devils, but they also allow us to tap into strengths and capabilities that we never knew we had. You never know how far you can go if you never leave the porch
2) Reduce stress
Write a list or make a mental note of everything that rocks your anxiety. Next, determine what’s actually relevant to your life and then make cuts or promotions. If you don’t need it, then you don’t need it.
3) Take more time for yourself
There’s no way you can help or be there for others if you’re depleted. Everyday take a few moments to engage in something that brings you joy and inner peace. Ever now and then try taking an entire day for yourself to recharge and relax. You’ll thank yourself later.
4) Spend more time with loved ones
It’s no question that we need money to pay bills and provide, but what good does it do to have things and no one to share experiences with. Watch that movie with your kids, have that conversation with your loved one, plan that girls’ night that you all have been talking about. You can make more money, but you can’t make more time.
5) Learn to be happier with your life
J. Cole said it best in his song Love Yourz, “No such thing as a life that’s better than yours.” Find the beauty in your struggle and don’t sleep on yourself or your level. It may be hard right now, but it won’t be like this forever.
6) Let go of grudges
Holding onto grudges is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to be effected. It’s perfectly alright to be hurt or angry, but it’s another story to wallow in it. Feel and embrace the hurt, release the pain in a healthy way, and then let go and live your best life.
7) Build/rebuild a spiritual connection
Whether you believe in God, Allah, Buddha, or the Universe as a whole, having a spiritual connection to something that’s positive and much bigger than ourselves helps us place things in perspective and find peace. Without peace of mind there’s no way you can properly function on a consistent basis.
8) Let go of past mistakes and losses
Stop beating up yourself and others for things that can’t be changes. The past is the past and what’s done is done. The only thing you can do is learn from the experience.
9) Face your fears and insecurities
The truth isn’t always picturesque or comfortable, but it’s necessary if you want to move forward in life. Sometimes we have to swallow those horse pills in order to better our lives and circumstances.
10) Being more honest with yourself and others
You can’t expect greatness if you ‘re dishing out deception. Light always gives way to darkness so open your heart and mind to truth.
