Rooted in Rest: How Editor Tanisha Davis Replenishes to Lead and Create

Tanisha Davis rest story 1

For Tanisha Davis, rest is not an afterthought. It’s the foundation. As the editor of a thriving media platform, she understands that consistent rest is key to maintaining creativity, clarity, and compassion. In a world that praises the hustle, Davis has intentionally carved out rhythms of rest that fuel her leadership and elevate the way she shows up for others, especially Black women. In our interview, we glimpse how rest has become both a ritual and a strategy for sustaining purpose and power.

Fancy: As the editor of a thriving publication, how do you unplug and make space for rest amidst deadlines and features?

Tanisha: I’m very intentional about setting boundaries. I’m big on pausing and taking time off for myself, even if that means ignoring emails for a while. Just as much as I make time to pour into others, I have to allow space to refill my own cup. Rest isn’t a luxury for me—it’s a necessity that keeps my creativity and leadership sharp.

Fancy: What’s one rest habit you’ve adopted that helps you stay aligned with your creative voice?

Tanisha: One rest habit I’ve adopted is making time for simple joys like reading a good book or taking a trip to the library. It’s such a nostalgic feeling for me and instantly calms my spirit. I also love sitting by the water to meditate. Both help me regroup, realign, and return to my work ready to deliver my best.

Fancy: How are you building a media brand that reflects wellness and wholeness for Black women?

Tanisha: While FEMI focuses on helping both men and women, when I think of the many Black women we feature, my desire is for them to experience something memorable that reminds them of their value. Too often, we as Black women don’t feel our best; we’re weighed down by society’s false narratives. Through intentional storytelling, authentic representation, and celebrating our wins, I aim to create a space that reflects wellness, wholeness, and the truth of who we really are.

Fancy: What does it look like for you to be Well, Inspired, Liberated, and Divine in the media world?

Tanisha: For me, being Well, Inspired, Liberated, and Divine in the media world means standing firm in my values, telling stories that matter, and creating space where authenticity is celebrated. It’s protecting my peace, honoring my voice, and using my platform to inspire others while staying true to the purpose God placed in me. Writing is my ministry.

Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Tanisha Davis unique?

Tanisha: My swagher is rooted in faith and quiet confidence. I’m observant, intentional, and not the one in the crowd. I’m on the outside watching, discerning, and moving when God says move. I take chances because I trust Him, and that faith shapes everything about how I show up and make an impact.

Fancy: Where can readers connect with you?
