Dame Dash throws a jab, Funkmaster Flex throws a jab. Dame Dash throws a right hook, Funkmaster Flex throws a right hook. The punching and counterpunching between the two have been taking place via social media. The two legends began trading insults due to a difference of opinion. Both men share a deep passion for the history and evolution of Hip-Hop. However, they share a difference of opinion for a man who is also a major piece to the legacy of Hip-Hop. This difference of opinion has sparked an epic feud between music and business mogul Damon Dash and world-renowned DJ Funkmaster Flex.
The man in the middle who is the ether to this feud is Lyor Cohen. The music exec has been involved in Hip-Hop for over 30 years. Cohen got his start managing artists such as Run-DMC, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, and The Beastie Boys. The relationship between Cohen and Dash developed in 1996 when Dash’s Roc-A-Fella Records began working with Def Jam. The two partnered to earn a lot of money together. At the same time, Dash blames Cohen for Roc-A-Fella Record’s decline. Dash feels many of Cohen’s business decisions caused tension which led to the demise of the label. “My beef wasn’t with Jay, my beef was with Lyor Cohen because I think he’s a fake CEO. He’s a culture vulture. He’s using our culture to make money. Why can’t he make money in his own culture? This is the way he rapes our culture. He collects money from bigger companies, says he’s going to get all this urban stuff, and then spends the money on his kids and himself. That’s what I saw him do,” Dash said.

For four years, Dash has consistently stated his negative opinions towards Lyor Cohen and his public statements went without a response until recently. On December 18 a response was given, but it didn’t come from Lyor Cohen. The response came from a notable DJ. Funkmaster Flex took to social media in defense of music exec Lyor Cohen. “It’s always easy to turn people against the rich JEWISH GUY that is still relevant and making money,” the DJ wrote in an Instagram post directed at Dame Dash. The mogul responded by requesting to have a face to face conversation with the DJ. The fire seemed as though it would be put out, but then something went terribly wrong as the postings continued.
Dame Dash commented on how Funkmaster Flex has been stuck at the same job for 30 years. “Not sure what’s wrong with this dude @funkflex or why he hates his own culture so much…but I feel sorry for him…his master won’t let him out that lil room he’s been in for 30 years…and his master won’t even give him a promotion,” Dame Dash posted. Â In his response, Funkmaster Flex labeled Dash as a liar in addition to attacking Dash’s financial issues. “Hahaha! You pay that child support yet??? $345,000??????” Flex posted. Dash responded by posting his resume. He listed all the companies he’s owned. He also listed how he owned multiple companies during the same time span Funkmaster Flex was working the same job. Flex countered by breaking down how each company Dash listed failed.
Dash continued to flirt with the status card as he posted in reference to him having a boss mentality and Funkmaster Flex having a slave mentality. “You make @hot97 look whack, get a new job, you’re old. You’re 50!” Dash wrote. “Hahaha! @duskopoppington you are a liar! And your BOSS money is kinda low,” Flex responded. Flex took his comment a step further as he posted both his and Dame Dash’s net worth. The posting showed Funkmaster Flex has a net worth of $14 million and Dame Dash is significantly behind with a net worth of $2 million. As Christmas Day approached, Dash and Flex continued to give each other jabs and hooks. On Christmas Day, Dash took to social media to once again state his dislike towards Lyor Cohen. He talked about Cohen being a shady businessman and a liar. He also shared his opinion about Funkmaster Flex. He posted about how Flex is a career coon and he needs to stop defending culture vultures. “Merry (expletive) Christmas!” Flex posted as a response. With these two big egos involved, it seems like the social media postings will continue due to the fact if one of them stops, the other one will see it as weakness and claim victory. Obviously, this feud won’t be resolved until all three men are seated in the same room at the same time. They say conversation is good therapy. This situation may call for a big dose of therapy.
