Seriously! Jacob Blake

Seriously!

Why didn’t he stop? Why didn’t he just stop? So much is going through my head and mind, yet I keep asking why he didn’t stop. This question does not come as a means to justify Jacob Blake’s shooting, but to wonder, why didn’t he stop. In the climate that we are in right now, why didn’t he just stop? Why is there another police shooting? Why is it on camera, and the police who did this are still walking free? WHY IN THE HELL IS THIS ANOTHER HEADLINE?!! WHY?!!

My soul screams out why. Why yet again? I feel so numb at this point that this is becoming the new normal. I read a post today that said we should have made Zimmerman an example. In my heart, I truly agree. It feels like that short story, “The Dangerous Game,” where those who vowed to protect and serve, decided they were bored and now are hunting Black people. Why ole why?

There is truly no explanation for ALL of the police shootings that have been happening. It is almost like the kids have to be afraid to go to school due to school shootings, and their parents have to be scared of living while being black. In a recent live, Meg the Stallion pointed out that she was trying to protect Tory Lanez, because of how the police were handling her. She protected him.

I see posts of Black men saying they are afraid to be stopped by the cops. I see videos of children terrified and running when they see the police. Is this really what life is, at this time? During a segment of Dale Hansen unplugged, the Dallas meteorologist said that it is time for the good cops to call out the bad cops. One cop, Officer Williams, spoke against it, and now he is unemployed. Damn! We know that there are good cops and many who actually protect and serve, but it’s just as we have heard since we were children, one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. This is precisely what is happening now.

Jacob Blake’s sister said it best, “My family has been getting shot. Emmitt Till is my family, and Mike Brown is my family…” I totally agree with her. She finished her speech with the profound words, “I’m not sad, I don’t want your pity, I want CHANGE!”

I, too, want change, but we can not create change if we are fighting amongst ourselves. I have seen so much fighting. We shouldn’t protest, we shouldn’t riot, we shouldn’t do…SHUT UP! Do what feels right for you and in your spirit. It is not until we become united that this can change. We have to be willing to make sacrifices and change who we are before a change can come to our environment. So many speak on the Black on Black crime, let’s deaden that now. Yes, that may be an issue, but they did not take a vow to serve and protect. Instead, they shoot to kill because they are scared. If you are scared, get off the force. That is not the job for you.

Jacob Blake is lying in a hospital bed, paralyzed, handcuffed to the bed because I am sure he was just tired. He stopped to break up a fight, and I am not sure why he walked off, all I know is that was NOT a reason to shoot to kill him. Seven shots in his back, all because he didn’t stop.

Let’s end the questioning and trying to reason things out. There is no gray area, because who is the say if he complied, that they would not have still shot him. It is a sad case, and I am so tired of talking about it and crying. I am tired of thinking about it. When will this stop? Why can we not get apprehended without gunshots?

I don’t know why he didn’t stop, and I think that is a question I use to make concession for yet another police shooting. I’ve had time to think about it. It really doesn’t matter why he didn’t stop. Why was he shot excessively, is the real question? Get well soon, Mr. Blake.
