Sitting In It: A Mental Health Blog

Lately, I have been bored af, tired af, lonesome af, but I am still breathing. I don’t ignore that fact because I am grateful, but that doesn’t mean I like this. My therapist and diagnostician call this time or practice sitting in it.

What does that mean? It means when the feelings of sadness or gloom or sometimes it’s a void that comes, I allow them. I  don’t want them. I hate feeling this way, but I also don’t try to fight them. I do sometimes try to find other things to do to distract me, but that doesn’t always work.

So instead, I sit with them. I sit in it, the feeling, the void, the sadness, or gloom. Most times I go to sleep, which is why I think we often see people who are battling depression sleep more often.

Some days I am strong enough to even work through it. It’s hard, but I sit in it, thinking that if I just push through those moments, I can have good moments again, possibly soon, possibly big but likely small, but at least they won’t feel the same.

I don’t know if it the winter cold or what exactly, maybe it’s just the time of the year, but If you are sitting in it too, know that you are not alone.

Breathe in and out. Breathe IN and OUT. That’s hope.

For those, who may wonder why I would write such a dark blog, I hope you can now see a little better what it is like battling depression without having to experience it.
