In a world where scrolling can easily replace socializing, Sk8te and Cre8te is encouraging DMV residents to put down their phones, lace up their skates, and reconnect in real life.
Hosted by SheisSincerelyB Creatives Media, LLC, the Sk8te and Cre8te Fall Edition will take place Sunday, September 27, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Lanham Skate Center in Lanham, Maryland. The kid-friendly event combines skating, music, creativity, and community in an environment designed to give attendees a break from their screens and an opportunity to simply enjoy the moment.
The concept behind Sk8te and Cre8te grew from a concern that social media has begun consuming too much of everyday life. According to the organizers, the goal is to create spaces where people can step away from their phones, give their minds a rest, meet new people, reconnect with old friends, and make memories that do not depend on being documented online.
“You don’t necessarily need to have your phone to create memories or make them,” organizers shared in the event questionnaire.
That message is at the center of an experience designed to feel less like another obligation on the calendar and more like an opportunity to reset.
For two hours, attendees can skate while DJ EMANSZN serves as the event’s official “Skate Hypeman.” Pic-A-Booth 360 will also offer free 360 photo booth experiences, giving guests a chance to capture some of the memories they create throughout the evening. The event will also feature specially selected vendors aligned with its themes, including desserts, self-care, and fashion.
Organizers say Sk8te and Cre8te is about more than skating. The broader vision is to use experiences like this to strengthen community, support mental wellness, and eventually expand into seasonal programming and events centered around causes such as breast cancer awareness and mental health awareness.
The team describes the concept as bringing “the outdoors, but indoors”—creating a fun, friendly setting where attendees can shift their mindset, engage with the people around them, and leave feeling refreshed.
The September 27 gathering will be held at Lanham Skate Center, 9901 Lanham Severn Road, Lanham, MD 20706, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The current Eventbrite listing notes that attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and that free parking is available.
Tickets are available through Eventbrite. Event organizers are also promoting special ticket offers, including a buy-one-get-one-free option or $10 off a single ticket.
