There’s something deeply familiar about the sound of a spades table.
The competitive side-eyes. The laughter between books. The conversations that somehow start with card games and end with life advice, relationship confessions, childhood stories, or somebody questioning the entire direction of their existence before the night is over.
For many Black families and friend groups, spades has never just been a game. It’s community. It’s culture. It’s storytelling. It’s connection.
And now, Spades & Spirits Podcast is turning that same energy into one of the most intriguing new conversations entering the podcast space.
Officially launching June 1, 2026, the Atlanta-based podcast is hosted by Misty Reign, known professionally as The Spiritual Attorney, alongside co-host Christian Nicole, The Intuitive Development Coach. Together, the two are creating a space where spirituality, healing, consciousness, relationships, culture, and emotional intelligence can exist in the same room without feeling forced, filtered, or disconnected from real life.
And somehow, it all started with a simple realization about card games.
“I was watching an interview of a wealthy man who said he plays poker once a week with his wealthy friends, and often they come up with million-dollar ideas while they’re playing,” Misty Reign shares. “And I thought to myself, what kind of card game do Black people play? Spades. What can we discuss that will enrich not just our pockets, but our spirits? Spirituality.”
From there, the vision for Spades & Spirits practically unfolded on its own.
The podcast blends the nostalgia and familiarity of playing spades with transformative conversations centered around healing, manifestation, mental health, metaphysics, relationships, self-awareness, and personal evolution. Each episode invites guests from different walks of life to sit at the table, play cards, and dive into the kinds of conversations many people are craving but rarely get to hear openly.
Topics throughout the season include everything from dating through a spiritual lens and African spirituality to human design, emotional intelligence, the rise of the divine feminine, and questioning outdated systems that no longer resonate with modern seekers.
But what makes the show stand out isn’t just the topics. It’s the energy.
There’s an intentional balance between depth and relatability. Between laughter and introspection. Between culture and consciousness.
“We’re looking for guests who are insightful, authentic, and deeply passionate about what they do,” the hosts explain. “Some are experts in spirituality, mental health, wellness, relationships, metaphysics, or personal development, while others simply have powerful lived experiences and perspectives that can shift the conversation.”
That balance feels especially important right now.
People are exhausted by surface-level interactions. Social media has made everyone visible, but not necessarily connected. More people are questioning old paradigms, searching for deeper meaning, and trying to reconnect with themselves outside of survival mode and performance culture.
Christian Nicole says that awakening is exactly what the podcast hopes to speak to.
“People are waking up. They’re questioning old systems, searching for deeper meaning, and trying to reconnect with themselves. This show gives language, perspective, and community to that journey.”
And while spirituality can sometimes feel intimidating, overly polished, or inaccessible online, Spades & Spirits approaches it differently. The podcast feels less like a lecture and more like being invited to the cookout table where healing, honesty, humor, and perspective all coexist naturally.
The hosts describe the show as being for “the thinkers, the seekers, the healers, the spiritually curious, and the culturally connected.” The people who want conversations that challenge them while still feeling grounded, entertaining, and authentic.
In many ways, that’s exactly what makes the concept feel culturally significant.
Black communities have always found ways to turn ordinary gathering spaces into places of wisdom, therapy, storytelling, and transformation long before those conversations became trendy online. Spades & Spirits simply modernizes that tradition for a new generation navigating identity, healing, relationships, spirituality, and self-discovery in real time.
The podcast will release in seasonal formats, with Season 1 premiering June 1 and new episodes dropping every Monday for 12 weeks. The creators say the decision to structure the show in seasons allows space for intentional storytelling, elevated production, curated themes, and creative evolution instead of rushing content for the sake of consistency.
And honestly, that feels aligned with the entire spirit of the show.
Nothing about Spades & Spirits feels rushed.
It feels intentional.
Thoughtful.
Culturally grounded.
And deeply aware of the conversations people are quietly craving behind closed doors.
Because sometimes healing doesn’t start in a therapist’s office or a meditation retreat.
Sometimes it starts at a card table.
With people willing to finally talk about the things that matter.
