Greetings All,
I know it’s been a while. I’ve been experiencing writer’s block, but I always struggle with writing here because I never had a plan for this blog. Still, just as I started to write today, I realized I want this to be a place where you all can get to know me because it is so hard to do that on social media with everyone wanting to read less and less. This is a place for those who would like to know Fancy, the woman behind SwagHer Magazine, and I realize not many of you know me. I can tell this from our social media. Still, it is ok, because other than having interviewed hundreds of people and garnered a following of 49K on Instagram and Facebook (respectively), I hadn’t done anything particularly astounding, and I don’t put myself out there enough, or at least I used not to do that.
Lately, I’ve been saying less about what I would like to do and simply doing it. That’s how I came about writing this blog this evening. I’ve also grown to be more intentional about everything, and I now know that my intention for Fancy’s Thoughts Blog is to be a lifestyle brand of its own housed within SwagHer Magazine.
When I started SwagHer Magazine, I was 25, and though I knew a lot for my age, I don’t think I knew as much about being a woman, especially a Black woman, because I hadn’t experienced enough in life. I’ve grown a great deal since then, and there are things that I would like to share. Before, I shared my thoughts, but I was not as intentional about it. It was more of a sporadic thing or as things occurred, but that’s the thing, I no longer want to sit around and wait on something to happen to me. I want to be an example to other Black women that we can go out there and get what we want out of life. I want to show that we can rise above any situation.
I want you all to know that you can come here to Fancy’s Thoughts Blog and find inspiration, strength, and sisterhood through bold storytelling, authenticity, and deep thought. I want to show you what self-love can do.
As I write this, I am heading out to dinner to celebrate my 37th birthday, and I feel both sad and excited. I feel excited about what I am about to do but sad that it has taken me so long to do it. I was always waiting for the right time, the perfect moment, but at 37, I now believe that we have to seize the opportunity when it is presented to us. Well, what’s a better chance than the start of another year of life?
I look forward to embracing life and stepping out of my comfort zone with you all. I intend to share some thought-provoking, reflective experiences, thoughts on womanhood and femininity, and lots of radical self-love in my downtime.
If you are looking forward to what’s to come, share this post with a friend so that they can go on this journey with us too! In the words of Kanye West, “It ain’t how it used to be. This is the new me, so get used to me.”
