Stormy Forecast: DJ Stormy Hits The EDM Music and Entertainment Scene

Like a strong gust of wind DJ Stormy has blown past the doubters as she continues to establish herself as one of the premiere deejays on the EDM scene. Currently based in Atlanta, Stormy made a decision to invest in herself and master her craft as an EDM entertainer. EDM music, also known as Electronic Dance Music, is a broad range of percussive electronic music genres made largely for nightclubs, raves, and festivals. EDM music consists of multiple genres such as drum and bass, breakbeat, and disco. It’s also loaded with sub-genres such as Baltimore Club, Jersey Club, Miami Bass, Chicago house, Electro Hop, and New Jack Swing.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Stormy Monroe relocated to New Orleans at a very young age. Even though she has an abundance of love for the city she was raised in, Stormy admits the initial transition from Trinidad to New Orleans was difficult. “I grew up on the Westbank in New Orleans in between the Fischer, Degaulle Manor, and Christopher Holmes. When I first got there, it was hard to identify what ethnic group I would be with. I didn’t know if I could identify with the Blacks or the Latinos. When I started playing sports, my teammates became my clique,” Stormy stated.

As time moved on, Stormy didn’t have a problem in the socializing category. During her high school years, she positioned herself to be the focus of attention. “I was, the extrovert. I played all the sports, I was the class clown, most athletic, most popular, and I was the homecoming queen,” Stormy stated.

From a music standpoint, the love for it derived from her parents. Her mother was a well-known singer in the Caribbean, and her father had an appetite for listening to all music genres. In addition to being influenced by her parents in reference to music, Stormy gravitated to the signature New Orleans bounce style of music at the age of 12. Years later she became a fan of Cash Money Records as they started their rise to fame. “I like everything Cash Money. Lil Wayne is my favorite rapper”.

Stormy received her first taste of deejaying and entertaining a crowd at family gatherings. She had all the equipment and made a decision to start playing music at house parties, cookouts, and crawfish broils. She officially made her entry into the music industry from the business side. Stormy managed artist such as New Orleans rapper Ice Mike, and she was part of the road team for Tre-8 and Joe Blakk. However once she relocated to Atlanta due to the devastation from Hurricane Katrina, the business side of music grew unappealing, so she made an impulse decision to invest in herself.

Inspired by icons such as Spinderella and Jam Master Jay, Stormy’s first DJ gig took place at the Rose Bar in Atlanta. The Caribbean native admits her emotions were running high on this particular night as she was feeling anxious. She felt confident she could be entertaining and believed in her ability to get the crowd pumped. DJ Stormy succeeded courtesy of her unique sonic blend, and creative approach.

By being calculated and strategically building her brand, Stormy is recognized as one of Atlanta’s first known EDM Artist. As a show of appreciation for the love she received from the city, the EDM artist adopted the name Stormy ATL. She consistently stays on top of her game by being unique and focused. “I embrace my persona. I don’t want to be fake. When it comes to my craft, I’m always trying to evolve. I’m very edgy, and I try to be bold and do things differently.”

As a female EDM Deejay, Stormy feels it’s easy for her to be underestimated in the male dominated genre. “My music has various transitions, build-ups, and drops. My music takes you on a journey. When I turn the power button on and press play, people notice I’m a legit EDM artist.”

Stormy is a seasoned EDM Deejay who is ambitious, determined, and a constant student of her craft. “My motto is go against the grain and be bold. I don’t want to do things the traditional way.”

In addition to being a successful EDM Deejay, Stormy has made an appearance on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta. Currently she’s a cast member of the dating series, Ready To Love. Stormy received the opportunity when casting contacted her via social media. Ready To Love explores the real-life dating interactions of grown and prominent Black men and women ranging from age 30-50 as they are seeking everlasting love.

Produced by Will Packer, the show gives an in depth look at the realities of finding Black love. “Being a part of Ready To Love has been an amazing journey. You have a group of successful Black people, who are in the prime of their lives. They have experienced hurt, break-ups, and divorce,” Stormy shares. Ready To Love airs on Oprah’s OWN Network Saturday’s at 10 p.m. eastern.

DJ Stormy continues to gain momentum in the music and entertainment industry as she prepares to be a part of an upcoming feature film. She plans to continue auditioning for speaking roles and make lively music under the umbrella of her entertainment company formerly known as Architect Entertainment Group. DJ Stormy’s EP “Venom Kisses” is now available on iTunes.
