Sunday Setup: Episode 8

On Episode 8 of the Sunday Setup, Dawn Michelle kicked off the episode with some housekeeping items and told the audience that her show is a safe place for positivity and good vibes.

She shared the latest issue of SwagHer Magazine with the audience and advised them to pick up the healing issue.

She recapped things happening in the news, like the death of Shanquella Robinson. Shanquella traveled to Mexico with a group of so-called friends in late October and never made it back to the United States. From what we have seen, there is a video of her being beaten while naked in a bedroom. Her “friends” told her parents that she died from alcohol poisoning. Thankfully, the video showed there was much more to the story; hopefully, those involved will be charged. The FBI has now gotten involved along with the Mexican government. Prayers for her parents, who had to watch this unfold on social media.

In Colorado Springs, a gunman open fired in the only “safe space” for the LQBTQ+ community in that area. Five people were killed, and many others were injured. The police have a suspect in custody who allegedly has a past of terroristic threats and essentially got a slap on the wrist for those threats. Let’s hope this killer gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We must stay vigilant and fight for our LGBTQ+ family.

Her guest for this episode is April Jackson-Hunter. 2x best-selling author, mother, wife, entrepreneur, and survivor of domestic violence. April shared her journey of being in abusive relationships and the inequities of the resources available to the LGBTQ+ community versus the heterosexual community. Because of the lack of much-needed services for this community, April decided to start her non-profit called Mercedes Closet Inc. This non-profit aims to be a safe haven for those experiencing domestic abuse in their lives. April hopes to one day find a hotel she can convert into a place where she can provide housing to victims. She used to do this out of her pocket until the pandemic hit.
