SwagHer Society Stories: Shelly Lee on Faith, Purpose & the Power of Storytelling

Faith is the foundation of Shelly Lee’s mission. What began with a notebook, a tug from God, and a late-night writing journey has blossomed into a thriving mission to help others bring their own stories to life. As the founder of Pen.Paper.Publish, Shelly has guided more than 90 authors through her signature Write Your Book in 90 Days or Less program—transforming uncertainty into confidence and silence into bold storytelling.

For Shelly, writing isn’t just about words on a page. It’s about obedience, healing, and walking in purpose. She believes that faith-based storytelling is a ministry—one that breaks chains, builds bridges, and reminds people they are not alone. Her bold faith and transparent leadership have made her a trusted coach, equipping aspiring authors to push past fear and perfectionism to release the stories they’ve been carrying.

When she shows up, she shows up fully—flaws, faith, and all. And through her visibility, she’s not only built a platform but created a space for others to step into their calling and share their truth.

Personal Journey & Purpose

For me, this calling was personal before it ever became public. God gave me my own story to write first, and through that journey, He showed me just how many people were sitting on books they were called to release. I realized my pen wasn’t just for me; it was a tool to help others find their voice, too. This isn’t just about writing books. It’s about obedience, healing, and walking in purpose. I help people birth what God has placed inside them because their story isn’t meant to stay locked in their head; it’s meant to set someone else free.

Whew, let’s just say I learned by living it. I started out with nothing but a notebook, a testimony, and a tug from God that wouldn’t let go. I wrote my first book in between working my full-time job, raising my kids, and trying to figure it all out as I went. There was no roadmap, just obedience and a lot of late nights. That journey taught me how to push past fear, self-doubt, and perfectionism. When I launched Pen.Paper.Publish, I wanted to give others the clarity and structure I didn’t have. I turned my process into the 5P Method: Pray, Plan, Pen, Proof, Publish, so no one else has to walk that road confused or alone.

Community & Impact

One moment that still gives me chills is a client who came to me convinced she wasn’t “good enough” to write. She had a powerful testimony but carried years of doubt and fear. Ninety days later, she held her finished book in her hands with tears streaming down her face. It wasn’t just about the book; it was about seeing herself the way God saw her. That’s the part I’ll never get over. Watching someone go from silenced to boldly sharing their story is a front-row seat to transformation.

Because faith-based storytelling isn’t just words, it’s ministry. When you share what God has done in your life, it reaches places no polished speech ever could. Stories break chains, build bridges, and remind people they’re not alone. Every testimony carries healing for the writer and for the reader. It’s proof that God can take pain and turn it into purpose.

Challenges & Practical Tips

One of the biggest challenges is helping people get out of their own way. Fear, perfectionism, and procrastination show up loud. But here’s the thing: I meet them where they are, not where they “should” be. I coach with faith and strategy. I’ve learned to create structure, accountability, and encouragement that push them through those blocks. And I don’t sugarcoat it either. I remind them: God gave you the story, but He won’t write it for you.

Start with just one sentence. Don’t overthink the whole book. One sentence turns into a paragraph. A paragraph turns into a page. And a page can change your life. Perfection doesn’t publish books; obedience does. Sit down, pray, and put pen to paper. Your story can’t impact anybody if it stays trapped in your head.

SwagHer & Visibility

My SwagHer is bold faith with no apology. I don’t whisper “purpose”; I speak it loud. I’m a coach, a storyteller, and a woman who believes that what God starts, He finishes. I lead with transparency, I teach with heart, and I show up as the woman God created me to be, not the watered-down version. I’m equal parts grace and grit. That’s my SwagHer.

When I started showing up authentically —flaws, faith, and all —people connected not to the “polished” version but to the real woman behind the pen. Sharing my story built trust. It opened doors I didn’t even know existed. And, most importantly, it gave others permission to stop hiding and start writing. Visibility isn’t just about being seen; it’s about impacting others while being your true self.
