Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Britney, Britney?
Britney: A combination of three things, my personality, my creativity, and my drive. I’m pretty sure if you mention me to anyone that knows me or have met me, they would probably describe me as a jokester, innovative, but also very driven and ambitious when it comes to my goals, my dreams, and my business. I am literally a mixture of humor, creativity, risk-taking, and passion!
Fancy: So, tell us more about L’arome Factory, Inc.
Britney: L’arome Factory, Inc. is a premium/NICHE fragrance line that I started in 2016. My first two fragrances were called “Fervent†and “Amour Graceâ€. I wanted to create a fragrance that was good for sensitive skin and used with more essential oils versus fragrance oils that have a lot of harsh alcohols in them. I have decided to relaunch and rebrand. So, come February I will be launching my new perfume called “31â€. The slogan is “A soft scent, for a strong woman!†I am super excited about it.
Fancy: I know you have your perfume company, but was that your start into entrepreneurship or did you try your hand at other businesses as well?
Britney: Oh yes! I have tried my hands in multiple businesses. However, some things just didn’t pan out and that could have been partially due to timing or a lack of certain knowledge at the time. So, I may revisit some businesses I have attempted in the past.
Fancy: How did you venture into mentoring?
Britney: It literally became a demand! Once people saw the launch of the fragrance, they begin to ask me one of the most important business questions and that is “HOW?†… So, I answered that question by providing a mentorship program where I teach entrepreneurs how to think from the consumer perspective, so they won’t just start a business, but they can actually be successful with their target market.
Fancy: Why do you find mentoring to be of importance?
Britney: I will use this analogy. If you have never been to Disney World before but want to go, so you reach out to someone who has been there before. Once they begin to talk about the different attractions, what weather you should go in, what type of clothes to wear, how fun it is, what you should try while you are there, not only are you excited about going, but you now have inside instructions and directions from someone that has been where you are trying to go so you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. That is what a mentor is and that is why they are so important. They are the individuals that have been where you want to go and can give you direction on how to make your destination as successful as possible!
Fancy: Do you have any tips for those considering being a mentor but who haven’t completely solidified their decision yet?
Britney: If people pull on you for certain information, that is how you know there is definitely a need for you to mentor. I always say just because you have a business does not mean you are equipped to be a business mentor. A mentor is not someone that is just passionate about their business, but they are passionate about helping others with their business also. Do a self-check to see if you are passionate about helping others be successful.
Fancy: You will be releasing two books this year. Please share a little about the inspiration behind those.
Britney: The first book I will be releasing is called “10 Keys to Start a Business with NOTHING!â€. The inspiration comes from my own startup. Not everyone has $10,000 sitting in the bank to start a business or have the credit to get a loan. They may only have $1 and a dream. But if you are willing to put the work in, you can work your way to becoming your own business resource, and I share those tips in that book.
My second book is entitled “Thinking in High Definitionâ€. People always express how creative I am, and so I wanted to write a book on how to take your thinking to the next level even when it looks like that thought might seem crazy to yourself and others. Some of the greatest inventions were once crazy ideas.
Fancy: What is the biggest obstacle you overcame whether personally or professionally, and how did you do so?
Britney: People pleasing was a major hurdle for me to jump. I would consistently dumb myself down so others would accept me. However, this would make me sad with myself. I am not sure when the day or time was, but the more I let people feel however they felt about me while I worked my purpose, the less people-pleasing was important to me. Sometimes you have to take small steps to victory.
Fancy: How do you practice self-care?
Britney: By saying “NO†when necessary, being ok with not being able to make everyone happy, taking time away with no social media or phone and spending time to recharge my mind. I eat healthy and work out. If I feel like I am getting overwhelmed, I will remove things off of my plate this keeps me from being anxious.
Fancy: Do you have any upcoming events or projects that you care to share?
Britney: I have a few events I will be speaking at including in Australia (Yay!), my itinerary is posted on my social media page!
