Christina: What is your SwagHer? What makes Lisa, Lisa?
Lisa: My SwagHer is my ability to genuinely connect with other people and build relationships. I have a love for seeing other people succeed in whatever their true desires and dreams are. What makes me, me? I love doing this and having fun doing it. Life is too short, so I am making the most of today by having an impact because tomorrow is not promised.   Â
Christina: Tell our readers a little about Positively in Pursuit LLC. What services do you offer?Â
Lisa: Positively in Pursuit, LLC is a personal and professional development company that assists women leaders in achieving next-level success. We help women leaders gain confidence in finding their leadership voice (especially in male-dominated environments), building their leadership courage, and increasing their executive presence. We offer one-on-one leadership/career coaching, group coaching, speaking services, and HR consulting services.
Christina: You have a book out, Invisible Professional to Influential Leader. Tell us a little about it. Why did you decide to write a book?
Lisa: Invisible Professional to Influential Leader is a leadership tip book for women leaders who are ready to lead authentically with confidence. I wrote this book because, as a woman of color moving up the leadership ranks of Corporate America, I wished someone had told me about these tips. There were times where I felt invisible in my career, and I know there are other women that feel the same way. I just want them to know that they are not alone. The book has Actions & Reflection exercises for each tip, so this book is a living document that can be referred back to as women leaders have different experiences in their careers. Â
Christina: In your opinion, what are some things a person could do to take their career to the next level?
Lisa: I have a 3-step process that I utilize with my clients to help them come up with a plan to achieve their next level. The first step is Clarity on what they want in their careers. Everyone’s next level is different and unique to them. The second step is Consciousness, which is an honest assessment of their skills (strengths & developmental areas). In order to achieve the next level of success, there may be additional skills that are needed. The third step is Commitment, which means developing action plans and taking steps (even if it’s baby steps) to move towards their next level.   Â
Christina: You are an HR professional as well. You’ve helped people overcome conflict in the workplace. Can you give our readers three tips on how to avoid conflict in the workplace?
Lisa: Unfortunately, sometimes you can’t avoid the conflict. It’s there, front and center. Here are three tips to overcome conflict. 1) Address the conflict. If it’s a conflict with another person, try to engage a third-party mediator to assist (your manager or HR). 2) Try to understand the conflict. Why is this happening? What is my role in the conflict? Come from a place of curiosity and understanding instead of a place of defensiveness 3) Get a deeper understanding of your triggers and values because when conflict arises, it could result from a violation of your values. Once you get this understanding, you gain the power of choosing how you respond and how you want to “show up†in the situation.
Christina: What is your favorite thing about being a Leadership/Career Coach?
Lisa: My favorite thing about being a Leadership/Career Coach is I actually get to help my clients make an impact in their professional and personal lives. I love seeing my clients’ growth and the results they have in their careers. Â
Christina: What motivates you?
Lisa: I am motivated by my true desire to help women. I know what I went through growing my career in Corporate America. If I can help one woman navigate leadership and her career in Corporate America, it’s what keeps me going. Â
Christina: What do you want to be remembered for?
Lisa: I want to be remembered for being approachable, funny, professional, and full of integrity. I also want to be remembered for making an impact on the growth of women. Â
