SwagHer Spotlight: ‘To Have and To Hold: Charlotte’s Ursula Douglas

Connecting with Ursula Douglas was like connecting to the personification of the sun or a true breathe of fresh air. Ursula Douglas is one of the cast members of the new reality show, ‘To Have and To Hold: Charlotte’. Now, one would expect a reality star to have an air of grandiosity and arrogance, however, Ursula is the complete opposite.

Ursula is a very spiritual person and that was evident to me even before we met. Her spirituality is probably outdone only by her humility. These characteristics are what not only attracts people to her but holds them and they make an indentation in your soul before you know what hits you.

The ‘To Have to Hold’ cast member has spent twenty plus years as a nurse because, again, that is just a part of her make up. She cares for people. She has always cared for people, not just family but community. It was how she was raised, and it is a key part of her identity. She prides herself in making sure that not only her blended family is very much into the community, but she is making community and wellness her business, pun intended.

She and her husband Clinton Douglas, have made it their business, literally, to help people live their best lives by focusing on their minds, bodies, and spirit. Ursula not only believes in keeping the Trifecta in optimum shape, but she also is a staunch believer in bringing back some old school values, such as reinforcing a genuine sense of community. She believes in reaching back for the many batons our ancestors carried and teaching the future generations of the importance of them always passing on the batons to further future generations, so the traditions and values will have infinite life in our communities.

The name of Ursula and her husband’s business is called Empowered Health and Wellness because that’s what she wants for everyone: To be empowered in Health and Wellness, not just physically, but mentally too. She is adamant about taking the stigma out of mental illness, especially in the Black communities. She knows the Black communities “have Jesus but sometimes we might need the help of a therapist”, and she definitely wants everyone to know that there should be no hesitation, apprehension, or humiliation to seek help.

Ursula Douglas is like walking sunshine. Always ready with a smile, always seemingly ready to help and inject her unique brand of swagher which she says is her uniqueness. She credits her swagher to her resilience. Life throws curve balls at us, however, Ursula seems to either duck them or return them with her brand of grace, while leaving her aura of sunshine.
