The City of Kenner “Just Did It”

In a memorandum sent to the city of Kenner recreation department, the mayor demanded that the department no longer accept or purchase Nike merchandise.

An image of the memorandum with the city’s official letterhead and the signature of the mayor, Ben Zahn, is floating around social media. While it does not mention Nike’s new campaign, Dream Crazy, which features Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback who has been banned from the league due to kneeling, we all get the memo.

Upon the unveiling of the campaign early last week, many Trump supporters  and those who are bothered by Kaepernick’s decision to raise awareness of social injustice and police brutality, burned their Nikes and/or professed they would no longer support the brand.

Kenner Councilman Gregory Carroll announced via the City of Kenner, District 1 Facebook page that he will be speaking with the Mayor Zahn about rescinding the memo, saying it goes against everything he stands for.

A city spokesperson said he had no comment on the matter.

  1. Free advertisement for Nike. The proposed ban will likely have the opposite effect that the Trump-supporting mayor of Kenner, LA intended.
