Now let’s just be frank, its tons of talent from Chicago; some we are canceling collectively (inserts Kanye West & Robert Kelly), and others who we praise for unparalleled transcendent talents such as EARTH WIND & FIRE. Natalie Cole, Mavis Staples, Chicago, The Chi-Lites Jennifer Hudson, Common, Mick Jenkins, Styk, Lupe Fiasco, NoName and the list can go on and on.
Yet today we give it up for the Kid of Chicago.
BJ The Chicago Kid who has silently and boldly laid very low, except for what he puts on wax. His debut album “Pineapple Now-Laters” is nostalgically gifted, melodic, and quaint yet packed with soul. Ballads who not only have mass appeal and homage paid to likes of the greats before him. “The Big Payback†and “Aight†are some of the top singles on it, but BJ has not stopped since his 2016 release of the studio album “In My Mindâ€, which featured the coveted single “Church†with fellow Chicagoan, Chance The Rapper. As soulful as it gets and almost as quiet as kept, he dropped a trio EP of singles at the tail end of 2018 entitled the “The Opening Ceremonyâ€.
What you may want to do is also ditch Jacqhehehe Quemix and get a load of BJTCK covers and mashups. Everything from collaborations with H.E.R. to Confessions covers I mean-and his band is insane. His list of guest appearances and the plethora of artists he has worked with is as long as he is versatile, from the OGs of Warren G to the modern-day Soul Queen Jill Scott. BJ thrives in all climates collaborations with another Chicago native Vic Mensa on his “Innanetape†mixtape and helping Kanye West on “The Mission Impossible III†soundtrack. The accolades may be the last thing he is searching for but before we decide to be foolish and act like true R&B and Soul are lost arts you may want to go check out The Kid From Chicago. He All GROWN NOW Tho!

About J. Hall
Hello,
My pen name is J Hall. I was born in Kansas City but raised in Dallas, and I am a mix of Southern Hospitality and Midwest Flavor. Growing up with my mother who was a singer, my brother and I was always around music. She listened to everything! So my palette is diverse, and I love to hear new and sampled sounds. I love music and how it heals, helps, and is a form of creation and art. I challenge the status quo and love to find hidden gems and share with others. Music is the way we decorate silence. I look forward to sharing some great music with you.
