The Women Behind People Places Things

The Who, The What, and The Why

We created People Places Things because we are obsessed with humans, the diverse spaces we occupy, and the objects we acquire. We connect stories of places through the things we curate and the people we meet along the way while building a global community.

The collections are a blend of treasures we’ve gathered from the unknown, unrecognized, and under-appreciated designers from around the world. From thrifting, market hopping, food tours, historic walks, and the countless steps on our forever progressing pedometers, we turned fashion and travel into a global treasure hunt. The magnificent designs we carried back to our closets were the inspiration and reminders of the faraway lands we experienced and the beauty we discovered. We are here to celebrate the magic of uncharted lands, the stories of amazing people and of course, exclusive international fashion.

  1. Why did you feel this type of brand and foundation is important?

For many reasons. We saw a need for the accessibility and exposure of global, sustainable, luxury brands that have affordable and one of a kind fashion pieces. Also, a desire to bring culture and stories back into our fashion and clothing is slowing down the fashion manufacturing impact. We genuinely have a love for people, traveling, and fashion. We wanted to create a company that could allow our customers the access to things they have never seen before.

  1. How do you market your international fashion finds to the public?

Social media, curated events, and old fashion show and tell.  We showcase our designers through our channels as well as styling for local public figures and being our own art. We also dress the part daily. That gives us the opportunity to tell people who we are and what we do. Personally, if we walk past you and see you wearing the architecture of jewelry or clothing we’ve never seen before, we’re complimenting you first and then asking you where you got it!

  1. Social media has taken global expansion to a new level.  Is it easier or harder to launch your own company today vs 5 years ago?

Social media certainly helps with growth hacking and becoming relevant to the right audience, they are all such awesome platforms when utilized optimally. Although you don’t have to play by the same rules, the basics still apply. You have to do your research, be disciplined, innovative, build inclusive teams, have goals that are plans – actionable and be ready to put the time in. It’s easier because we have tools like social media and the data it provides, but the hustle is still the same if not more important.

  1. Your brand blends travel and fashion together quite remarkably – are you from the U.S.? What cultural elements drive the vision behind fashion pieces?

Yes please, we are American. Quality + Inspiration. We love the care and attention that global designers and really all independent/emerging designers take with their collections. We work with brands that are highly aware of the time and effort it takes to make a great product. Our designers collaborate with surrounding talent and resources in their countries. Their designs are produced in local, intimate and safe spaces; where workers are compensated fairly and truly enjoy what they do, this is displayed in the craftsmanship of their products. We understand its hard waiting sometimes, but we hope you’re ready to ditch the fast fashion life for QUALITY and LONGEVITY.

  1. Who’s your favorite major fashion house or designer?

Chanel: For their longevity and class. We all know Chanel. The clean lines in their designs are iconic and interchangeable.

  1.  Working with designers seems like a hectic job.  Can you give us a day in the office in less than 100 words?

We both have nine to fives. So our evenings are our workdays. Throughout the day we flag emails for outreach and follow-up. As entrepreneurs, our days vary from content curation to merchandising collections. On content evenings we block out time to create calendars for social media platforms, write up blog posts, and brainstorm ideas for other self-curated content.  Nights we merchandise or source – we always start with the country we are highlighting. Each night is a rabbit hole of researching; we use social media to find designers and influencers. We look up neighborhoods which lead to finding concept shops and more designers and collectives. We look up fairs and markets and search, search, search building our lists within a country.
