There Will Always Be More Flowers: Shifting from Lack to Abundance

An abundance mindset is one of the most important traits a leader should have, but for many of us, small business owners, it’s easy to get caught up in a state of lack.

A lack state of mind is rooted in fear and scarcity. It’s the belief that there’s not enough—money, clients, time, love, support, opportunities—to go around. When we operate from lack, we cling to things, overextend ourselves, and sometimes sabotage our own growth out of fear that something better won’t come. It shows up as hoarding instead of circulating, hustling without rest, saying yes to the wrong opportunities out of fear of missing out, and second-guessing our worth or pricing.

This mindset can feel especially heavy for Black women. Many of us have witnessed generations before us making do with less and working twice as hard for half the return. We’ve been taught survival over overflow, endurance over ease. So, when you’re trying to build something powerful from the ground up, the shift to abundance can feel unfamiliar—even uncomfortable.

But here’s the truth: abundance is your birthright.

An abundance mindset acknowledges that there is always more—more money, more opportunities, more love, more joy, more healing. It’s trusting that what’s for you won’t miss you and believing that even greater things are ahead. It’s knowing you can give without losing, rest without falling behind, and release what no longer serves you without fear of it never coming back.

I was inspired to write about this after the guy I’m dating brought me flowers yesterday morning. I immediately loved the new Spring Mums, but instantly wondered what I would do with the other flower arrangement he had recently bought me. They were slowly dying, but still had life, and I wanted to see if I could get them to shake back. There was also a part of me that simply did not want to let them go. Who knew when I would receive more flowers?

When he noticed me rummaging through boxes in my new apartment, trying to find scissors and something to put the new bouquet in, he gently said, “There will always be more flowers in the world for me to buy you.”

And it hit me. I was hoarding the old arrangement out of a subconscious fear that I might not receive more. Just like I’ve held on too tightly to funds, waiting on another sale instead of trusting that more is on the way. That moment reminded me that abundance isn’t just about wealth or business—it’s about how we allow ourselves to receive and release in every area of our lives.

So if you’re in a season of holding on too tightly, let me offer you these affirmations—ones I’ve been saying to myself and ones that I hope will speak directly to the hearts of other Black women leaders:

3 Abundance Affirmations for Black Women

  1. I am divinely supported, and my needs are always met.
Even when it doesn’t feel like it, resources are aligning for me in the background.
  2. I attract overflow because I operate in my purpose with confidence and clarity.
I don’t chase, I magnetize—and what’s for me flows to me with ease.
  3. There will always be more flowers.
I release fear and make room for what’s blooming next.

Sis, let’s stop playing small or shrinking because we’re afraid there won’t be more. There will be more. Whether it’s flowers, funds, or favor—there’s more waiting on the other side of release.
