Wednesday Wonder Woman: Cairo Williams

Cairo Williams has been a working model for ten plus years. She’s scorched the runway for New York Fashion Week, Calvin Klein, was hired as a campaign model for Maybelline as a commercial model, face of Slumberpod, and she has shot with countless name brands, from Verizon to Citibank. Currently, the model is one of the faces of Tokyo Fashion Express Japan and a Brand Ambassador for YBLimited Mobile Glam Squad and Our Children’s Story. In the early stage of her career, Cairo was extremely self-conscious in front of the camera. Photoshoots were terrifying, and it was reflected in her photos. However, she grew determined to break the cycle of anxiety and self-doubt.

Cairo realized she didn’t have complete control over her movements and body mechanics, no “structure” or “template” to fall back on. Everything she learned from various coaches was useful but limiting. She was taught to “mimic” and “recreate” her instructor’s poses and movement. Although she utilized these techniques, they weren’t “flexible” or “adaptable” and could not be relied upon. Out of this need to evolve, Cairo began formulating a “system” designed to yield poised and purposeful angles while generating natural yet compelling face and body positions. Year after year Cairo honed her system, testing it during hundreds of photoshoots and runway shows. The results were undeniable, the work poured in! She named her method, Clock and Flowâ„¢.

With Our Children’s Story Purple and Green Gala approaching next month, we chatted with Cairo about her work and the upcoming event. Get the deets below.

Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Cairo, Cairo?
Cairo
: I’m a bare-foot-walking, country girl, who simply enjoys expressing myself through my work, style, and encouraging others to do the same. That’s my swagher. What you see is not what you get. I’m constantly analyzing myself to be a better person to reach my full potential in this lifetime. I’m on a continuous path of growth and self-discovery.

Fancy: How did you begin modeling?
Cairo:
In my late teens I was signed by a New York Modeling agency after winning a three-day modeling competition in Georgia.

Fancy: I can totally relate to the anxiety and struggles you mentioned when starting out, but I’m curious to know why you persisted when many may have decided that modeling just wasn’t for them?
Cairo:
I took several breaks from modeling to have new experiences. Along the way, I realized I received more positive attributes than negative. The fashion industry is not perfect, but I cannot deny that I was a shy insecure girl when I entered the industry. However, I was able to develop confidence and self-respect along the way. I love what I do and how modeling has afforded me the chance to help other models and those who want to feel like a model.

Fancy: So how did you become a brand ambassador for Our Children’s Story?
Cairo
: I attended a Special Mommy Makeover produced by Our Children’s Story and YBLimited. The photoshoot gave me a glimpse into special needs families’ lives. I witnessed the love and hard work that is put into every venture of OCS. I then offered my services as a Model Coach to the CEO, Libra Hicks, and Our Children’s Story’s entire team welcomed me with open arms.

Fancy: What attracted you to the organization?

Cairo: I am attracted by Our Children’s Story fiery dedication to advocating for special needs families and the transparency of the organization.

Fancy: What does the position entail?
Cairo:
I model coach during photo shoots, teach my trademark method Clock and Flow Posing and Runway Technique, assist with the production of fashion shows, and dedicate my time to various events sponsored by OCS.

Fancy: Will you play a part in the Purple & Green gala and if yes, how so?
Cairo:
Yes, I will assist in any way possible whether it’s model coaching, organizing, or production. Wherever I’m needed, I will gladly make it happen.

Fancy: How can others assist or support the cause?
Cairo:
Others can assist or support by donating to Our Children’s Story. It takes currency to run a business properly. A lot of the families receive very little help from the government so please go to their website https://ourchildrensstory.org/contact-usand contribute what you can or join us at the Purple and Green Gala.

Fancy: Do you have any other upcoming events or projects that you care to share?
Cairo:
My company Clock and Flow Posing and Runway Method have collaborated with Beauty Guru YBLimited as the “Lifestyles Twins”.

We combine teaching clients posing or runway techniques, followed by a makeover and photoshoot. This way clients can immediately show what they learned in class, thus building a positive self-image and self-confidence.
