Christina: What is your SwagHer? What makes DeAndre, DeAndre?
DeAndre: I am a crazy energetic introvert! My quiet disposition is mysterious, but my passion and calling in life is loud! I admire being unique and not following the crowd. My SwagHer is illustrated best in leadership and in my work and commitment to the communities and clients I serve.
Christina: What inspired you to start Anointed Hands Heavenly Touch Massage & Bodyworks? How do you think your background in healthcare has helped with the success of your business?
DeAndre: I originally wanted to be a Nurse Midwife, with a spa dedicated to moms and babies. But eventually knew I would venture in other areas of holistic health. I went to massage school the year before nursing school and birthed AHHT Massage & Body Works. I never became a nurse midwife but did attain my RN and blended my careers to not only serve just moms and babies but all persons along the continuum of life.
One of the cornerstones of our success has been our unwavering focus on the client experience. We understand that true well-being goes beyond the physical and extends to the emotional and mental realms. Our team has worked tirelessly to create an environment that fosters relaxation, healing, and trust.
Christina: How have your roles as an Executive Assistant to the VP at St. Luke’s Hospital and Senior Investigator for the Texas Medical Board’s Opioid Team shaped your approach to entrepreneurship?
DeAndre: In my role as an Executive Assistant, I developed a keen understanding of organizational dynamics, effective communication, and the importance of efficient processes. The fast-paced environment of a hospital demanded adaptability and the ability to handle diverse responsibilities. These skills have become invaluable in my entrepreneurial journey.
Working as a Senior Investigator for a regulatory agency exposed me to the complexities of regulatory environments and the critical importance of compliance. Navigating the intricacies of healthcare regulations has been a significant asset in the development and growth of my entrepreneurial endeavors. It instilled in me a deep appreciation for ethical business practices and the importance of staying informed about industry regulations, which is crucial in sectors with high compliance standards.
Both roles have also honed my problem-solving skills. In healthcare, critical thinking is paramount, whether it’s addressing challenges in patient care or investigating regulatory violations. This experience has translated directly into my entrepreneurial approach, where I’ve learned to identify and address challenges proactively, fostering a culture of innovation and adaptability within my businesses.
Christina: How do you continue to stay updated and enhance your knowledge in the healthcare industry, particularly in massage therapy, post-op care, and other specialized areas you focus on?
DeAndre: Continuing Education, networking, and skills-building are the keys to success in this industry. I never stop learning or growing. I am consistently attending conferences, working with physicians, and networking with fellow business professionals and organizations to hone on current skills and increase knowledge and awareness as trends and technology grows. My commitment to excellence has driven us to stay at the forefront of industry trends and technological advancements. We have embraced innovation, incorporating cutting-edge techniques and technology to enhance the quality of our services. From the latest massage therapies to state-of-the-art post-operative care practices, we are dedicated to staying ahead of the curve.
Christina: How do you balance being a multi-business owner with your commitment to family and mentorship?
DeAndre: Thank you for that insightful question. Balancing the responsibilities of being a multi-business owner, while remaining committed to my family and mentorship, is indeed a dynamic journey that requires careful consideration and intentional efforts. First and foremost, family is the cornerstone of my life, and their support and understanding are invaluable. I am fortunate to have a strong support system that encourages me to pursue my entrepreneurial endeavors while providing the necessary foundation for a balanced life. Regular communication and quality time with my family are non-negotiable priorities, and I make a conscious effort to be present during those moments.
