LaKeisha LaGuins, aka Kei LaGuins, is a screenwriter, playwright, singer, songwriter, actress, movie producer, casting director, model, and journalist. She has done voiceover for the Dee Hill Morning Show, written articles for Big in Da Street Magazine; her memorable interviews were with Iron Shiek, the music producer from Wu-Tang. With the consistent love and support from family and friends, Kei has been blessed with a multitude of accomplishments.
As a singer/songwriter Kei has many female artist influences from Pop, R&B, Neo Soul, and Gospel. Kei has developed her own unique sound of music. A style comprises of R&B and Pop with her new single ‘Tell Me.’ Kei is ambitious and very determined and refuses to restrict herself to just one avenue in the entertainment industry.
In 2014 Kei did her first stage play titled When A Man Loves A Woman. It was then that she realized entertainment was her passion and started her production company Kei LaGuins Productions, on December 1, 2014. Kei has two films currently out When A Woman Loves A Man, shown in Aurora Cineplex in Roswell, GA, on May 15, 2016, and 4 Hours was screened at the TPN Film festival December 17, 2016. Kei’s movie, ‘4 Hours’ won the best action film in which she was the executive writer, producer, and voiceover actor.
She had roles in the independent films, ‘Back to One’ as the nurse; ‘Substained’ with Director-Jamall; ‘Tangled and Twisted’ as a junkie; ‘Atlanta Ambition’ as the police officer, directed by Terre Atlanta; and the Vamp Girl in ‘Blood Lust’ with Director Romeo;
After doing her first stage play in October, Kei LaGuins Productions was established on December 1, 2014. Kei LaGuins Productions sought deals with film, music, TV, stageplays, and fashion lines. Other projects included the film ‘Eternal Game’ as the Assistant Director and Script Supervisor. Kei got her first role as a police officer in the web-series ‘Ambition’ that followed with some short films and worked on a feature film.
Kei has her own clothing line-Kei LaGuins Productions shirts, and she’s starting her a magazine and other entertainment avenues. She has a wine and champagne business, Kei Wine and Kei Champagne, on her website www.keilaguins.com. Kei has sponsored several events from music, film, charities, and she is in several Atlanta magazines.
Christina: What is your SwagHer? What makes Kei, Kei?
Kei: I’m very unique. I have my movies and my wine. I put on comedy events, stage plays, and music events for talents who are looking to get recognized. I cast different actors/actresses for various projects. I have sponsored several events. I helped in ministry, giving back, etc.
Christina: How did you get started in the entertainment industry? Have you always wanted to be in it?Â
Kei: I started first with just music-singing and songwriting, then I started doing stage plays and movies.
Christina: Out of all the things you could do in the entertainment industry, you choose film. Why?Â
Kei: I enjoy writing, and I enjoy producing my own, and I have helped other’s as well coming on set as a casting director and producer
Christina: You have a single out, ‘Tell Me.’ What is the story behind that song?Â
Kei: ‘Tell Me’ was basically about a relationship just asking them what’s wrong? Talk to me, what’s on your mind? After all, we’ve been threw and still trying to make it work.
Christina: You did a stage play When A Man Loves A Woman. How was that experience? Would you ever do it again?Â
Kei: Yes, it was my very first stage play ever, and I loved it so much, and yes, I would do it again in different states as well.
Christina: You were the voiceover actor, executive writer, and producer in 4 Hours, an action film. How were you able to handle all of that responsibility?Â
Kei: This was a short film I wrote, so it was easy for me to do the voice over for it. I loved it.
Christina: You have a business, Kei LaGuins Productions. Please tell our readers more about it. What services do you offer?Â
Kei: Yes, I started Kei LaGuins Productions on 12/1/2014. Right now, I’m looking for a crew. I was doing everything on my own with the help of my mom and two sisters. Lately, I just teamed up with a few production companies and helped produce and cast their projects.
Christina: If you had the chance to work with any two people in the film industry, who would they be?
Kei: Too many to name, but I would say Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett. I love Loretta Devine too.
Christina: You’ve acted a fair bit. Which character was your favorite to portray?
Kei: The junkie was interesting. I had to get into character as a crackhead, and playing the vampire was fun.
Christina: You have accomplished a lot, and I find you very inspiring for young women who want to get into the entertainment industry. What advice would you give to those young women?
Kei: To seek God and never give up on your dreams, always stay humble.
Christina: Do you have any upcoming events or projects you would like our readers to know about?
