Christina: How would you describe your SwagHer? What makes LaKisha, LaKisha?

LaKisha: I would describe my “SwagHer” as fierce, bold, and witty while exercising a high standard of professional excellence. I am unapologetically fearless to pursue my passion and encourage my followers to do the same. LaKisha is one who leads by example; she’s a fighter, an advocate for change. She’s not just a dreamer; LaKisha is an action word.

Christina: Why did you start The LM Experience?

LaKisha: I started my event company after planning my five-year wedding renewal ceremony. I had so much fun planning and meeting people that when I was laid off from my job a few months later, I just decided to start my own business. My company was originally started as a full-service event planning company in which my team executed events and administrated the planning of the events.

Christina: What exactly is an event producer?

LaKisha: An event producer manages all aspects of a client’s event. That could include managing vendor setup, event space setup, or day-of coordination of an event.

Christina: What is a day in your life like when you are managing an event?

LaKisha: When I manage an event, my day starts early, depending on what time the event will start. I make it a habit to always start the day with prayer and meditation because trust me, I will need it by the end of the day! Anywhere from 4 to 6 hours before the event, I start with a briefing of my staff/volunteers. I go over the itinerary for the day and assign duties. Then we get to work! I am mainly managing all of the moving pieces of the event. I make sure that the blueprint the client has set forth is executed flawlessly.

Christina: What inspired you to start The Convo with Kisha Podcast?

LaKisha: In my blog, I started doing blog features, and when I would interview guests live, we would have such a great time. Once I would publish the feature, I just felt like something was missing. So, I decided to bring those features live and start my podcast.

Christina: Did you always want to be an entrepreneur? If not, what happened to change your path?

LaKisha: No, I didn’t. I’m not sure what actually changed my mind. I just know that I am not a good employee. I mean, I do what I am supposed to do, but my mind is always on ways to escape. I figured out that I wasn’t destined to solely build the vision of another company as an employee my whole life. At the same time, I don’t think I knew I would become a serial entrepreneur either. Going after the things we love has a way of surprising us. I just ran with it.

Christina: Do you have any advice to give to someone who wants to be an entrepreneur?

LaKisha: DON’T!! Just kidding. I would say be clear about what problem you want to solve for others. Don’t let anyone stop you from reaching the goals you have set for yourself as an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is the greatest form of money freedom you can ever achieve.

Christina: Do you have any upcoming events or projects?

LaKisha: Since Covid-19, I had to totally pivot all events to a virtual platform. Every Monday night, I present a racism panel addressing the issues of social justice and racism. I host webinars on Wednesdays with professional experts on different aspects of business. I feature guests on my blog weekly, as well as my podcast. I just started a new social activist brand that will be launching soon. The purpose of the brand is to bring awareness to black Americans’ injustices and expose the racially motivated acts against Black Americans.
