Nickiesha “Nikki†Meeks-Ormsby was born in the West Indies on the tiny island of Jamaica. She grew up in the capital city of Kingston. After high school, she pursued a teaching career and taught at the secondary level for approximately four years. However, the young educator had an intense passion for the field of business and switched to the insurance field soon after.
Nikki progressed through the insurance arena from salesman to trainer to manager. As a salesman, she walked away with a number of awards, putting her among the best in her company. When she left the insurance field, she moved to the USA where she became an entrepreneur, owning and co-owning a number of small businesses.
The Jamaican native is the proud mother of two lovely children; Jude and Chesni-Rae, with whom she enjoys traveling and exploring the great outdoors. She lives by the mantra “if you can do it, I can do it tooâ€, seeking motivation from those who have blazed a trail.
Fancy: How would you describe your swagher? What makes Nikki, Nikki?
Nikki: Nikki is determined and confident. She plays full out in all aspects of her life, and she knows she is destined for greatness. She speaks her truth at all times and has used all the lemons life threw her way to make mojitos!
Fancy: So when you left your teaching position did you already know you would be great in sales?
Nikki: Absolutely not! I actually went into sales with the hopes that I could transition to administration eventually. However, that was not my path, and I ended up spending eight years in sales. I never thought sales was my thing until the reality hit…..if you don’t sell, you don’t get paid! That’s when I MADE it my thing.
Fancy: Please tell us about your book project. What is the book about?
Nikki: My debut book is called “The Secret to Entrepreneurial Success”. It outlines some success principles for navigating the entrepreneurial journey. It also highlights my own life experiences and how I used these principles to overcome them.
Fancy: What inspired it?
Nikki: People would always ask me for business tips, and I thought it was fitting for me to document these tips and be better able to reach a wider audience. Also, entrepreneurship feels like second nature; I can speak on the topic in my sleep and considering that I love speaking, I knew this book would be a door opener for me to do more speaking engagements.

Fancy: Have you always had an interest in writing?
Nikki: Yes. I was always an avid reader, and at times when I couldn’t verbalize my thoughts effectively, a pen and paper did the job effortlessly.
Fancy: What book(s) are you currently reading?
Nikki: “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck†by Mark Manson
“Thrive or Survive†by Nicole Mclaren Campbell
Fancy: Since we know you are great at sales, could you share two tips to successfully close a deal?
Nikki: Always translate features into benefits. Consumers don’t care what your product does until they understand what it does ‘for them’.
Don’t give up until you have made at least 5 attempts to close.
Bonus tip: Always throw in a story. Sales is more heart than the head. Touch the prospect’s heart.
Fancy: How do you balance work and personal life or do you even seek balance?
Nikki: I am striving to create a balance. It’s very hard doing so when you have young kids and full-time businesses. As best as possible, I try to do one family vacation per quarter, and in recent times I have been taking a day off. Let’s see how long I can maintain this day off idea….lol.
Fancy: Where are some of your favorite travel destinations?
Nikki: I absolutely love Negril, Jamaica and New Orleans, Louisiana
Fancy: Do you have any upcoming events or projects that you care to share?
Nikki: I co-authored a book with some bad-ass females, and I am really looking forward to the marketing and promotional aspects of the project. It’s called “Girlpower Uncensoredâ€, and it explores the real-life experiences of some strong women. Look out for it!
