Wednesday Wonder Woman: Shawnee Palmer

After working in healthcare for many years, Shawnee developed a desire to become more active in helping people overcome the challenges in their lives. This desire soon transformed into a passion, which led Shawnee to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Addiction Counselor. She named her private mental health practice Alpine’s Empowerment Agency, both as a tribute to what she works with her clients toward—self-empowerment and overcoming their challenges—and after her grandmother, who has been a spiritual guide and angel for Shawnee, guiding her life long after she’s passed.

Alpine’s Empowerment Agency provides a private space where individuals and families can receive counseling to uncover and address the root causes of the problems they face today. Shawnee has a passion for working with individuals who battle with substance abuse, depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, anger, low self-esteem, and those who are grieving a loved one or having difficulties adjusting to a sudden life change. Through her agency, Shawnee strives to serve as her grandmother did, as a guide to those who are struggling in life, bringing them to a statement of acceptance and contentment.

Not only does Shawnee work with those in need of mental and spiritual healing, but she also aids in physical wellbeing. Shawnee is the owner of Love & Serenity Wellness, a company that provides natural, chemical-free hair, body, and skin products. Within this company, Shawnee incorporates her talents in the mental health sector by also providing books and consultation services that aid in healing, understanding, and gaining wisdom that guides individuals to fulfill their true purpose in life. With this business, Shawnee strives to work with new and aspiring entrepreneurs, teaching them how to reduce the barriers in their life, gain the knowledge that they need to be successful, and obtain the resources that they need to gain a sense of serenity and love for themselves as they venture out on their financial journey.

Shawnee knows that everyone has the potential to achieve their goals. She’s made it her life goal to help others overcome the barriers and traumas that stand in the way of their life purpose.

Christina: What is your SwagHer? What makes Shawnee, Shawnee?

Shawnee: I think what makes me, me is my heart. I am naturally genuine and generous. I have maintained having a good heart my entire life despite the challenges I’ve had.

Christina: Why did you choose to work in the mental health field?

Shawnee: I made this decision because I had experienced unstable mental health issues growing up. I experienced trauma at a young age that impacted my mental wellbeing. It was necessary for me to work in a familiar field since I could relate to the population and share my testimony of how I mentally developed afterlife experiences.

Christina: Why did you start Alpine’s Empowerment Agency?

Shawnee: I started my business after recognizing how much more impactful I could be to society if I didn’t work under a company. There were too many limitations working for an employer that limited my ability to influence a larger number of people. My focus was to transition from mental health counseling into other ventures that would represent holistic wellness in general.

Christina: How important is mental health to you?

Shawnee: Mental health is essential to me. I put it as a priority in my life and intentionally do things such as daily self-care to ensure that I am ok. I am human and have my stressors, so implementing stress management techniques into my routine is necessary. To be most effective for my clientele, I have to make sure that my mind, body, and spirit are in alignment to do so.

Christina: Not only do you have Alpine’s Empowerment Agency, but you also run Love & Serenity Wellness. What made you decide to open up your second business?

Shawnee: I decided to add more holistic ways of healing through physical products and coaching, and this is how I came up with Love & Serenity Wellness. I see the value of holistic wellness based on the history of my ancestors. They used plants and nature for medicinal purposes. It was vital to incorporate that into my business since it has been a healing modality for me and the physical health issues I used to have. To maintain your wellness, you have to be satisfied with your body, skin, hair, and when you have this upkeep, your mental health is just better.

Christina: Define spiritual healing in your own words. If someone were to ask you what it was and how it worked, what would you say?

Shawnee: Spiritual healing is about gaining knowledge, wisdom, and understanding of what you believe spiritually and applying it into your everyday life. Healing requires you to disconnect from the things that prevent you from ascending spiritually. However, it connects you more with yourself, allowing you to be more present in your everyday ventures. There is no mental wellness without spiritual wellness; the two go hand in hand together. The mind is how we unlock our hurt and pain, and spiritually helps us become more outstanding in our destiny. Spirituality brings so much clarity and allows us to rationalize life in a meaningful way. Spirituality allows us to set standards and values and holds us accountable for following them.

Christina: What are some services you offer at Alpine’s Empowerment Agency and Love & Serenity Wellness?

Shawnee: I offer individual and family counseling sessions for individuals who suffer from depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress. I also provide mindset coaching sessions for individuals who have difficulty managing their emotional mindset and reiki.

Christina: You offer products at Love & Serenity Wellness. Please tell our readers about a few.

Shawnee: I have a fragrance oil, infused with lavender herbs. It helps increase relaxation for those who suffer from anxiety or stress. I also have a pain relief cream that helps reduce chronic or mild body aches and pains.

Christina: You have a book coming out. Please tell our readers about it.

Shawnee: “Shifting Your Mindset: A Guide to Overcome Depression, Anxiety & Trauma” releases October 15, 2020. My book focuses on identifying ways to change your perspective on life for unmanaged and unresolved anxiety, depression, and trauma. As a mental health therapist, I wrote scenarios based on my own life experiences to give the readers ideas on overcoming life obstacles. I provide the readers with knowledge that helps them reflect on their current mental processes. This book experience helps readers to enhance their critical thinking skills.

Christina: Where do you see your businesses going in the next 5-10 years?

Shawnee: My goal is to expand the agency by hiring therapists, working internationally, and offering more holistic wellness services so that the agency is a one-stop-shop.

Christina: Do you have any advice to give to aspiring entrepreneurs or mental health professionals?

Shawnee: The advice that I’d give to aspiring entrepreneurs is to believe in every idea, prioritize which idea they are the most passionate about, and never to give up! We get so wrapped up in mastering one thing when we are multifaceted beings who can do all things. Maybe we can’t do them all at once, but there are different phases of our life where we will be called to use other skills.

Christina: Do you have any upcoming events or projects that you would like our readers to know about?

Shawnee: I have a private Facebook group. The goal is to provide members with a safe space and tools on shifting their emotional mindset to align with their life purpose. I am featured on a few podcasts coming up. Follow my social media pages, so you’ll know when they will be released! I have quite a few projects in the works!

Christina: Is there anything else you would like to share?

Shawnee: I’ve been breaking out of my introverted shell, and I’m excited to share my gifts with the world. So for anyone who has fear about making changes, follow my journey, and discover ways in which you too can overcome your fears!
